. @notjustbikes@RM_Transit yes there's a gap between isolatoweg and centraal. Because before the ov chipkaart you could use strippenkaart on the train from Sloterdijk to Amsterdam Centraal. So there was no need to add metro to the same route cos the rail served it. Ov chipkaart broke this. Would be better to continue isolatoweg to Noord.
. @notjustbikes@RM_Transit 28 minutes they finally get to the Nueiwmaarkt riots and why the metro is the way it is. Because line 50 and 51 were not built as metro. They were snel tram. In fact as recently as 2017 the lift at Sloterdijk said "perron sneltram".
Noord Zuid line needed the technology to bore a tunnel through swamp. That's why the original lines were cut and cover.
I used to see the 4x4 version of these driving around in the UK and couldn't understand why. Then in 2017 I visited the Sud Tyrol in Italy, where I found quite a few of them, up mountains. On roads that I hadn't realised were intended for driving on. And yet are not much bigger than said panda.
It has a 999cc (about 1l) petrol engine, and four wheel drive. It's small, but you can fit quite a bit in the back with the seats down. Part 1/n
Driving on the Autobahn today it rained. Quite heavily. I could at times not see the road markings. Even after the rain stopped the sun reflecting on the wet road really reduced visibility a lot. It got me thinking, how on earth are self driving cars work with these conditions? How much testing are they gonna get for driving in the rain in California?
@doot@almostconverge@amy@Jyoti One place I worked we named servers after tube stations. One day I was on a train when I get a phone call from work. "Paddington's down?" I say. That panic'd a whole carriage full of passengers...
@amy@doot@Jyoti a friend of mine in a meeting where they wanted a name for the newly merge computing and networking team, proposed "common unified networking team". The boss wrote this on the white board. The boss wrote the acronym. The boss did not notice. Not at first anyway...
I don't think this is getting the coverage it needs. Scottish government to require passivhaus standard for all new build homes. This is big. Really big. Growing out of lessons from the 70's oil crisis. Passivhaus buildings use very little energy to heat, or to cool. We've known how to do this for decades. It's gross negligence from all western governments that the same is not true of all new builds in the developed world.
