@br00t4c Raskin needs to lead a 'Roosevelt-ian' return to an economics which puts ordinary folk first and sees off the oligarchy with high taxes and strict enforcement. He should speak to Stephanie Kelton and other Modern Monetary thinkers about how to reshape gum'mint after the Felon-in-Chief.
@pvonhellermannn Not unregulated, red in tooth and claw, savage Capitalism, but a calmer, perhaps, 'neutered', form which can co-exist with a strong, well funded Public sector, running the communal ties - infrastructure, health, etc.
This alleges that Melon Husk's lottery assembled the voter credentials, stolen/hacked voting machine software let bent Repugnicants hackers update ballot totals >after< polls closed with 'bullet ballots' to grow Drumpf's vote in swing states. Very sinister!
'Their sole purpose is, in the case of pension funds, to supply a secure income to a person in their old age. It should be added that when seeking to do so, they should also seek to ensure that the opportunity for such old age should exist, which means that they must be inherently engaged in tackling climate change,...' 1/2 Rachel Reeves really is a very big threat to the well-being of this country https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/11/15/rachel-reeves-really-is-a-very-big-threat-to-the-well-being-of-this-country/
2/2' ...which never got a mention in anything that Rachel Reeves had to say last night, so obsessed with her growth mantra is she, which is so contrary to the likelihood of achieving that goal of sustainability.'
@hrefna I recently bought an Octave Mandolin. (I didn't want to have to learn to read another instrument.) The voice is wonderful, and there's plenty of scope to play vibrant stuff on the lower strings on bluegrass stuff. But it's much further from E to B on the top string, and much harder to play fast passages there (think, Blackberry Blossom). Also, you need to rethink 'chop chords' unless your hands are lots bigger than mine.
'The attempt to deport twelve million people will likely generate some resistance. It is hard to imagine that every single person will willingly cooperate. Some will run, some will hide with friends; and, inevitably, a moment will arise when law enforcement will claim (truly or not) that an undocumented person used force in trying to elude deportation. This moment is not a side effect: it is part of the plan.'
From one who knows them... 'Full-blown theocracy is the plan, and trust me when I tell you that we won't recover from it if they are given the power the coming election will provide. If we fail in November, they will have a political power that will render every election null and void and we will never have a voice again in our lifetimes.''
'The new autocracy is confirmed by our new poverty. That is, in any event, the Trump-Vance plan.
They are talented politicians, and they have an alternative to democracy and prosperity, which is autocracy and poverty. Whether they bring America this new regime is up to us.'
'The reality is that private equity is not the best of capitalism, as it would like to pretend. Back in the 1970s it was described as what it really is. The description commonly used then for those undertaking this activity was ‘asset strippers'. Nothing much has changed, except the scale of the activity. Despite that, asset stripping is what it still is.'
'On this 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act, it’s also important to acknowledge that the Republican nominee for president of the United States has repeatedly harassed and abused women, been found liable for rape in a civil lawsuit, and appointed three of the justices who joined Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito in reversing Roe.'
'Of all those who are likely to face prosecution once the Metropolitan police close what will end up seeming like a never-ending investigation in the aftermath of this report, the proponents of neoliberalism are the least likely to face any risk of being brought to account and yet in my opinion they are easily the most culpable for their actions.'
'Both-Sidesism is the habit of reducing the world into two perspectives, treating the two as fundamentally alike, and then ignoring or adjusting the data. One cause of this odd behavior is the ownership of media companies. Another is fear.'
'... what he is endorsing, at best, is an expansion of the trickle down economics so beloved of the far-right so-called think tanks that have done so much to destroy the well-being of this country.'
Old, grumpy git. I don't eat Tofu, but am otherwise a fully paid up member of the 'Wokerati' so reviled by our Home Secretary.I've been a student of Classical Guitar since retiring, and can now read music reasonably. I've played Acoustic Guitar, intermittently, for most of my adult life. I've also taken up the Mandolin in recent years. I'm studying Trad Irish and Bluegrass styles. And. Loving. It!Just learning about hashtags... #fbpe #wokerati #ClassicalGuitar #Mandolin #MMT
