one thing I miss from early twitter (and haven’t seen at *all* here) is cartoonists who post WIPs and funny drawings. did they all go to instagram or tumblr or something?
if our computers can get away with saying they shut down “because of a problem” i think the rest of us should try this explanation for our behavior as well
@inthehands i have very similar feelings wrt disability justice: i’m an incidental benefactor of so much of that work when it was in service of the most vulnerable. I think it goes to show the power of letting those most susceptible to harms make decisions about systems and strategies to mitigate those harms
what if “scaling production” meant teaching more people & communities how to make a thing, rather than amassing knowledge, machinery & power into an enclosed system?
@hypolite hmm more like updates to those protocols that account for modern expectations from chat apps, combined with good default clients that can themselves be instances and modded, analogously with what mastodon is to activitypub
so, is there any attempt to create federated chat servers yet? amusingly i guess that could be seen as going "backwards" from Slack/Discord to IRC (or Zulip -> Zephyr), but maybe we can have better UIs this time.
