Doomscrolling the Supreme Court news. I read the book "Hippie Food" recently, all about stuff like Bragg's Liquid Aminos and how the heck it became part of our lives. (ct'd)

A lot of it goes back to privileged progressives who were despondent after Nixon won in '72. They felt they would never be able to make a difference through the political system. (ct'd)

They turned toward making change in their personal buying decisions, starting food co-ops, etc. Which gradually evolved into big businesses like Whole Foods.

Which is cool, sorta, but it doesn't do anything for people who can't afford it. It doesn't fight systemic racism, it doesn't end inequality.

It's going to be tempting to turn away from politics again. How do we fight a gerrymandered House, a constitutionally gerrymandered Senate, and a 6-3 majority of young conservative Supreme Court judges? Damn.

Maybe people will be angry enough at these decisions to do something about it in Novembers to come. Maybe we can keep it intersectional this time. A guy can hope (and send the kids 💰 whenever he can).

And a little sad, as that was also the year the IBM PC appeared and all that crazy diversity began to ebb away, to be replaced by a new cambrian explosion of PC clones... thanks IBM for greatly overestimating the difficulty of cloning the BIOS OK I'll stop now
