Minor Zig footgun: casting a [:0]T to []T is not safe if you need to free that slice later on - the size passed to free will be off by one.

Or, well, it could be considered "safety-checked undefined behavior", of which Zig has more. The general purpose allocator in the standard library reliably catches this error at runtime.

Today's pointless activity: obsessing over the design of binary data formats.

This is what ncdu(1) in full mdoc looks like. Useful for shell autocompletion tools, I suppose, but less so for humans. :blobcatthinking:

Scanning through a few mdoc-based man pages for inspiration reveals funny inconsistencies in how different projects mention CLI flags in the synopsis. On one side there's the lazy pkg-config approach¹, on the other side there's the fully complete wf-recorder² and in between we have file³, which lists all flags but not their --long-form aliases.

Why do I keep writing web crap?

Another day, another geographically distributed bot crawling a site that normally gets 10 hits per day with 10 hits per second.

At some point people will be so used to websites where content fades in on scroll, that they'll be amazed by a website that doesn't.

"Look, this site has already fully loaded before I even scrolled!"
