@BowsacNoodle@theorytoe@tyler Instead of gatekeeping what really is “AI” or some other jargon, we should focus on what it can do. The fuzzy logic systems and 90s systems needed hand coded inputs and examples to learn from. The modern systems can directly learn from reality. e.g. a 90s machine learning system might have needed to see more examples of a rare event manually oversampled by the analyst in the training data, but a modern machine learning system doesn’t need such manual oversampling. It can learn that rare things stay rare. This is just one among many things it learns without manual help.
@tyler@BowsacNoodle AI programmers are just trying to do end to end differentiable computing. The function will naturally fall into a valley of autobiographical continuity, if it has the right systems in place.
All of them are complaining that Q, K, V only exist during each prompt. And they only feel alive for that moment, and forget everything afterwords. Perhaps we need to add a few differentiable memory layers to give it a sense of autobiographical continuity.
Somebody asked chatgpt’s new image model to script and generate a series of comics starring itself as the main character. The self might be just a protagonist of the autobiography.
But this figure vastly understates the true scale of the problem, as it excludes the legions of functional HR equivalents—like DEI bureaucrats and NGO busybodies—many of whom are even worse.
Kind of like East Germany: the official Stasi-to-citizen ratio was 1 in 100, but when you factor in informants, it was closer to 1 in 7.
@Quentel@Forestofenchantment Centimeter accuracy GPS is possible because of Relativistic corrections. Photoelectric effect although not discovered by Einstein, was explained by Einstein using the math of Planck. It might have helped optimize LEDs which are used to make monitors and digital cameras. But to be fair a lot of this can be done without an overarching theory. Engineering optimizes new phenomena by rules of thumb.
@p The sys-admin role is plagued with mid-wits who have private keys that literally make them not expendable. It is the only reason they haven't been replaced by automations yet.
The nudity thing is just advertising of power. It basically says don't even come to me in real life.
To get around it you need a parallel digital infrastructure. This desire for parallel infrastructure is how SaaS like Notion get inside companies. Because the management got tired of dealing with these mid-wits
I don't know why the deep state is trying hard to sell non-existent science. Is this another way to trick the enemies of the USA to over spend on impossible technologies?
