SearX instances! You can aggregate results from multiple search engines, really good way to diminish any particular biases -

schwa (spookie@outerheaven.club)'s status on Tuesday, 02-May-2023 20:57:52 JST schwa @ShadowJonathan most people are addicted to recommendations fueled by advertising and controversy.
I've attempted to tell others irl about this, telling them how much better Fediverse can be for your mental health. And most seemed to agree, but they also recognize they prefer that.
It's hopeless. But yeah, the fact that Bluesky chose to use their own protocol, and all the effort that implies, should be enough of a reason to not evangelize their goals. -

I don't think that solar panels would work either, given that they might be shaded from buildings nearby. This limits where they can be placed. -

I do believe there'll be a lot of actually useful AR applications in the near future.
For example, one research paper shows that there's a substantial positive effect on elderly people, allowing them to more easily connect with far away family and improving eating habits.
*the paper focuses on VR, but their evidence suggests it would be better if implemented in AR*

One example of this are the nreal VR/AR glasses. In conversation from outerheaven.club permalink -

schwa (spookie@outerheaven.club)'s status on Thursday, 08-Dec-2022 08:19:54 JST schwa Tonight I tried to explain the fediverse to friends. Like many, they were dismissive.
I already knew that most people are more interested on useless infighting propped up by the algorithm, after the latest shitpost from billionaire south african, rather than legitimate human interactions. But, I cannot shrug off how disappointing it is.
I guess it's for the better.In conversation from outerheaven.club permalink -
