@shaunduke That's crazy! I mean I'm sure the administrators were offered salaries that would attract only the best talent! How could that have happened?
Who would think you can contract #COVID19 in the wilderness? I certainly didn't. But I went backpacking last week and tested positive for COVID 4 days after traveling home. On the trip, we 1. Flew in a commercial jet 2. Shopped at an REI for stove fuel and bear spray (can't fly with those) 3. Stayed in a nearly empty inn 4. Backpacked for 4 days 5. Stayed at a hotel 6. Traveled home by plane
On the last night we were backpacking, we were at a wonderful shelter called Birch Glen, with a cabin for about 12 people and three different tent sites. The cabin even had a front porch! We had the place to ourselves until dinner time. The a group of about 12 people arrived - middle school summer campers and two counselors from the Farm and Wilderness group. The kids and I cooked dinner at the fire pit and then cleaned up for bed by around 8 - we wanted to hike out early the following g morning. While we cooked and ate, the counselors had trouble getting help with their meal from their campers and distant thunder rumbled in the valley below.
I am watching #FoxNews as they convey their talking points for the masses who repeat what they say. Shocking how much they will only portray the #indictments in #Georgia as political retribution but will not discuss the allegations on merit. What strikes me most is the blatant #projection that they will resort to this type of retribution for every election from here on out. Nothing but angry victim speech, but I hope some proportion of their viewers have the wherewithal to question these indictments before jumping on the sinking victim ship. In any case, they were very much prepared with their talking points.
The other thing I'm hearing is how it is totally unfair to put a former president through this on prime time television because they just don't want to treat anyone else like this. No one!
But the minute they treat the ex-president like "everyone else," perhaps like #KaliefBrowder who died after 3 years in Riker's Island without any charges, they'll want this special treatment.
@inthehands@MichaelPorter My last great train adventure was pre-kids. I went to a conference in San Francisco from New Orleans. I had a roomette on the way out, but if I had it on the way back it would have been more expensive than a plane ticket and my university would not have allowed it. Everything went without a hitch, but the train only ran three times a week, so don't miss it! We left on a Wednesday at noon and I arrived in San Francisco near midnight Sunday morning (Saturday night). Coming back, I had to overnight in Los Angeles and meals were not included with a first class ticket. Overall it added 7 days of travel to a 5 day conference, which is why I haven't done since kids were born. Maybe next time I will go with them - they are old enough now!
So this is how it works. Have the courts attack affirmative action so that any time a highly qualified Black person is hired everyone can scream about affirmative action, DEI, and everything else that threatens white supremacy. Thus no qualified Black or other minoritized people can be hired without the threat of this circus.
@YoWatShiinaEsq Pumpkin flan sounds great! Another fun recipe to keep in mind is sweet potato pie. I've used a combination of blue sweet and orange potatoes to make swirled filling and designs in my pies, and it is very surprising to a lot of Americans who have only seen the orange ones. #Thanksgiving#Pie
Isotope #geochemist. Climate scientist. Man of precision, but who knows when to sacrifice precision for accuracy. Studying past records of #climate and #carbon cycling since 1999. Frustrated that our scientifically advanced society seems impervious to advice from #science. Same handle on the Xitter site, but transitioned over to and fully enjoying Mastodon.#AntiFascistToots in English (mostly) et français, é eu tento em português tambem.
