Another PSA about Amazon:

They only pay authors 30% in royalties (even if they price above 2.99) when someone buys a book through Amazon COM while not actually living in the US.

That's right. Amazon "steals" 40% of my royalties because the customer is in a different location that the USA.

Why?

Because they can. Because we authors let them get away with that. No other store does this.

Buy direct. Or at least not through Amazon.

Gute Nacht, Freunde.

Another 600 words this morning, and the story is definitely heating up now. It will be so much fun to write this part.

Tomorrow is a public holiday in Germany, and I really hope that'll translate in more writing.

Oh, and there's a new chapter in my AO3 Isekai tale Twin Worlds. (I had to change the listing, so that's what I call it now.)

Gute Nacht, Valheim.

It was an amazing day in Valheim.

First, I got to visit a world with stunning buildings, thanks to a friendly invite from @dgar .

Second, he paid me a visit and I got to show off my base and some of my abandoned projects.

Third, Chi'ara Twink had a stroke of luck and found a drake nest, some obsidian and even a silver vein peeking out of a little peak barely high enough for all of that on the mountain near her base. She has Draugr Fang now!

Wrote 800+ words today, filling a plot hole on Terragon's Challenge.

Formatting and uploading planned for tomorrow.

I also want to write a blog post about why this story is so special for me.

Didn't do much else. I feel worn down by the world, and I usually retreat when that happens.

(In other words, don't worry about me. I'm just hiding for a little while.)

Gute Nacht, Valheim.

Spent a lot of time with a little Twink. She built a big home, made a mess of it all, fixed it to a degree.

She's also closing in on Bonemass, raiding crypts near his skull, hauling home ore in her brand-new longship.

She just needs to get better armor so she can take on wolves and drakes, to make frost arrows for the Bonemass fight.

Valheim is a great place to hide in.

I did not think that it could get even better, but A Wolf's Quest made it to #17 in Romantic Fantasy on Amazon COM.

As Amazon is making changes to Kindle libraries, eliminating the ability to download files, I have ramped up my own little bookstore.

There, you can buy an epub file to download (from BookFunnel, who also keep a library of your books) that is yours to keep forever.

I'm a German author writing feel-good stories (with mangled heroes and lots of action) in English, mostly Fantasy, sometimes SF.

I had my own therapy practice, but it never was very profitable and died in the Covid lockdown. I specialized in EFT.

I can draw stick horsies. I design covers sometimes. I used to play the guitar and the recorder. And I play Valheim.

#WritersCoffeeClub 2/13: How do you organize your writing projects?

I have folders for all of my worlds. Some contain an abandoned odt file, some have plenty of subfolders for covers, ebooks, print, marketing material etc.

I try to be organized. It reduces the amount of time spent searching...

And yes, it's all backed up on NextCloud.

German can be a very descriptive language. For example, we talk about "jemandem Aufmerksamkeit schenken".

The literal translation is "to gift someone with your attention".

So maybe today is the day to think about who you want to gift your valuable attention - who deserves it?

I, for my part, will gift my attention to my friends (mostly here on Mastodon), possibly my writing, and most likely my Valheim characters.

Yes, it's self-care.

I've published several books so far and am on my fourth series. So here's a little list:

1) The Cloud Lands Saga / Beginnings:
Dragons and dragonriders. A fight between traditionalists and dragon-friends.

2) The Franssisi Four Chronicles:
SF, Human slaves fight for freedom. Steamy.

3) Wolves of the South:
Non-steamy wolf shifters family saga.

4) Winds of Destiny/Pillars of the Empire:
Epic fantasy, magic system. Some steam.

Red went up into the Mountain near his new base and found a Moder summoning spot. (Yay.)

Not ready to fight her. (Boo.)

Also not inspired for a building the new base, even though he has found a good spot. Taming lox is tedious.

I have four series starters that are all free ebooks and under 400 pages.

Dragons, adventure (Dorelle's Journey)
Epic Fantasy, a little spice (South Breaks)
Wolf Shifter, not spicy, no alpha (A Wolf's Quest)
SF, very spicy (Decoy)

I'm an indie author, the publisher you see on my books is my own little business and I only publish myself.

I hope something appeals.

And it's one of the reasons I hate all those covers with just vines, flowers and weapons on the cover - what genre is that supposed to be?

Romantasy? Epic? Grimdark?

It's an awful trend in covers right now, and they are starting to look all the same...

Wrote 600 words for Sun this morning. Third day of writing in the morning, and so far, it's been easy.

I expect it to be harder on some day, but we'll see. And eventually, I hope to reach 1k words regularly, but even that is secondary to establishing the habit.

Also played Valheim. Twink had a troll attack which showed some weaknesses in her fortifications. They are now - hopefully - fixed.

Not much else. I'm still in hyperfocus.
