    Brands Town is a new culture jamming project I'm doing. It's meant to be weird and sarcastic and fun.

    In a nutshell: ridicule the nature of brands on social media by creating our own fake brands. The sky is the limit on creativity. If it's funny to you, I'll probably think it's funny, too.

    I guess that’s fair. I just tend to see Friendica’s current resign as very reminiscent of what was good about Facebook’s UI prior to the Big Bad Redesign where it now looks like a PlaySkool interface.

    I still think Friendica is a totally viable replacement, if you cut out the chat, games, zillions of client apps, marketplace, moments, and their video offerings.

    Yeah, I guess they are pretty different nowadays.

    It kind of makes me feel small to turn around and see famous people come to the network and suddenly have thousands of followers over the course of days.

    I know it doesn't ultimately matter, but it's weird to be in a space for almost half of your life, and suddenly see former Blue Checkmarks roll in and suddenly command a substantial following out of nowhere.

    Maybe I'm being insecure and petty, I dunno. It's just kind of a mindfuck.

    @pettter Eh, went actually been through a fair share of community spats at this point.

    What's funny is that I think most of the Mastodon vs Pleroma flamewars have largely died down, as the most toxic players all got defederated into their own bubbles.

    I've been paying for this thing for a long time. It was a cool idea, and I enjoyed it when I was invested in it. It feels like dead weight. I ran this project badly, in the sense of community participation.

    I'm late on payment, and at this point, I'm contemplating just throwing one last payment down before abandoning it. If anyone wants to adopt it instead and Run the Thing, let me know.

    First time coding anything in a while, but I’ve started work on creating an open source Visual Novel Engine framework within Adventure Game Studio.

    So far, it has: ✅ A custom speech function that sets character expressions ✅ A way for people to join or leave your party when going from one place to another ✅ A way to check if a character is with you. ✅ A way to self-report what version of the script is running in a game

    There’s a lot more work to be done, but it feels good to scratch this itch again after a long break!

    I wear my heart on my sleeve. Queer as a 3-dollar bill. For my job, I maintain avionics systems on super old F-16 fighter jets. In my spare time, I try to make crappy 320x200 retro adventure games, and also run a few public services for the fediverse. You may have heard of WeDistribute or VidCommons, or maybe Spectra Video?I've been on the Fediverse for nearly 15 years. Been using some kind of Linux as a daily driver for even longer.
