@goatsarah “Our odd ideas” are a result of a lack of knowledge about what another person feels. The fact that the other person can’t provide the knowledge means we can not relate to their ‘predicament’. It’s no-one’s fault. The 99% are met with a scenario beyond their experience and the 1% can’t explain it.

That’s a great shame, because I’m on the side of individuals. You should have the same rights as everyone else, no more, no less.
As someone who’s woke about so many things, transgender issues is a grey area for me. I have espoused a range of equality causes; the more I know, the more I can relate to individuals. The contradictions around the trans issue remain for most of the 99%.
Why you would be scared of me is baffling!

@goatsarah “I am because I said so!” is not a strong position to be in when confronted by persecution. The processes of your experiences between 5 and 32 are key. If you weren’t ’confused’ fair enough. The confusion belongs to others (99% who knows?) who try to make ‘sense’ of trans people’s situations.
How far trans are hetro, homo, bi or whatever is only of importance to them as individuals. As long as you’re happy then there isn’t a problem! Take care.

@goatsarah Your ‘expertise’ is irrelevant; other than the ‘expertise’ of your own experience. That was the question I asked. You’re entitled to refuse to answer of course; it may not be very helpful and, clearly, it has exposed some irritation.
At least you realise now why many people are confused about the issue, knowing that the people involved are confused too. Go well.

Or are you someone who genuinely contends that males and females think differently?
(N.B. I apologise if you feel I’m interrogating you! I’m genuine about my ‘curiosity’ and happen to believe that all individuals are equals.) The public animosity on the issue is born out of ignorance, I feel.

@goatsarah I’m trying to ascertain (diplomatically, without referring to feelings of sexuality!) how far ‘sexuality’ plays a part in transgender issues. Male & female roles are largely defined socially in most cultures. Hence the ‘transvestite’ issue being a bit of a smokescreen it seems. The feelings of 5-year olds are (probably) not defined by sexual preferences; yes? So, what is the 5-year old AWARE of which makes them self-identify as ‘trans’?

@goatsarah Still confused. Why did you use two different definitions of trans in the same message? ‘Trans’ is short for ‘transition’ - yes?
What did you do at 32 that you didn’t do at 5? At both ages you said you were ‘trans’!

@goatsarah ????Why do the majority of trans people REFER to themselves as ‘trans’ when they haven’t ACTUALLY transitioned? There’s the confusion surely at the heart of the ‘controversy’!
No wonder many people are confused.
Are the bulk of ‘cases’ self-identifications?

@goatsarah These half a million: are there more details regarding number of a) men-to-women. b) women-to-men. c) those two groups post-surgery. d) simply those who self-identify. e) other categories I have unknowingly missed from the list?
Knowing THESE stats would be SO helpful to the cause of genuine equality.
