    @lucy easier to answer why it isn't so expensive on x86, where both branches can be taken and the correct outcome chosen later. This would certainly never lead to spectre/meltdown, because that would be a silly mistake to make

    @picofarad also, no you could not do what you described, that would require running software, which for the most part relies on having libc installed

    @picofarad of course, if you're talking about fixing it from a livecd type system you could do that with any distro, I could also most likely fix this by having a statically linked busybox preinstalled to unfuck the sytem.

    @nadia @wolf480pl anyway, rest of discussion aside, here's a video where LTT cools a multi hundred watts cpu with a big water loop, hitting about 40C on 400W I believe. Granted the CPU itself is significantly bigger than the ones you'd find in a laptop or whatever
