      Das Ernst-August-Denkmal ist ein Reiterstandbild zu Ehren des Landesherrn des ehemaligen Königreichs Hannover, König Ernst August. Es wurde 1861 von Albert Wolff geschaffen und auf dem Ernst-August-Platz vor dem hannoverschen Hauptbahnhof errichtet. Das Denkmal ist neben der Kröpcke-Uhr einer der wichtigsten Treffpunkte in Hannover, der gemeinhin als „Unterm Schwanz“ bezeichnet wird. Beschreibung Das Denkmal zeigt König Ernst August I. in Husarenuniform auf seinem Leibpferd Ibrahim. Das bronzene Reiterstandbild steht auf einem Sockel aus rötlich-braunem Granit des Brockenmassivs im Harz, der seitlich folgende Inschrift aufweist: „DEM LANDESVATER / SEIN TREUES VOLK“ sowie am Bronzefuß „Geb. 5. Juni 1771. König 20. Juni 1837. Gest 18 Novbr 1851. Errichtet 21. September 1861“. Entstehung Im Februar 1855 bildete sich in Hannover ein Komitee aus Beamten, Offizieren, Adeligen und Kirchenleuten um den Oberhofmarschall Ernst von Malortie.     The meeting spot in Hanover is in front of the main station and is called „unterm Schwanz“ which translates to „under the tail“ but Schwanz can also mean „dick“ which makes it more funny
