Hey, thanks a lot for sharing!
It's good to hear that things seem to be moving somewhere.
It may just be the fact that my environment is very different here: at home I had my school friends who are all politically interested and doing some kind of activism.
Here, I don't have any close friends yet so all I have to go off of, is my colleagues. Perhaps that's just the wrong place to look.

I'm still sad I can't find anyone who cares about issues like privacy, as I do

As a German, from my perspective it's really a step down.
I mean, I like being here, but many of the downright facts says it is just objectively worse.
I moved here for my first job. I quit after less than 4 months after working 11h every day (+ some on weekends), being constantly sleep deprived and getting depression. It's worth noting that most of my colleagues worked more than that. I physically wasn't able to.

I'm in a much better place now, but some of my friends still call me insane for working where I only get 10 days of leave per year, which I actually have to waste if I get sick.

Aside from that, I find the absolute lack of critical thinking about technology here extremely concerning.
Or more generally, a seeming lack of interest in any societal issues. Climate change, gender equality, wars, what not, everyone knows about these things, but seems to do anything.

You're making it sound like not adding alt text is an active attack on blind people. It is not.

One of the great things about Fedi is that we're all free to curate our feeds as we like. You can filter any hashtags or keywords you don't like, or people whose content you don't want to see, or posts without alt text.
There's no reason to put people down for posting or boosting stuff without alt text.

AI Chatbots are not the problem, if we're talking about energy use/effects on the climate.
10x a Google search is still an extremely small amount (as in 3mins of light bulb small!), and the 10x figure is also quite outdated (we're approaching 1x recently it seems)

The real AI-electricity offenders are apparently ad/recommender systems etc. and industrial applications.
