@inthehands I'm glad to say I would have disappointed your expectations in every job description I have posted, as I pay attention to the entire post, have it reviewed by peers of the position and peers in management, and have the language evaluated for inclusivity (no mention of education or years of work, etc.).
Now that I'm looking for a job, though, I realize how rare that is, as well as how many posts welcome applicants of all backgrounds but then deny you bc "looking for ppl like us"

Does anyone here have any idea how to go about calculating the approximate environmental cost per token use of different #LLM models? (I imagine energy consumption would be the beginning, but where to get that information for infrastructure providers like AWS Bedrock?) #environment #co2 #accountability #aws #azure #gcp

@whitequark My point was that different beliefs about free will result in different attributions of responsibility, which leads to different responses to people's actions. Why care about someone not believing in free will? Because they will not just talk about it, they will make choices based on their conviction and it's usually better to be able to predict them. In the case of politicians, who I believe are not able to try all solutions and must make a choice, ha ha, it will affect many.

@whitequark for example, you might enact a policy to reduce drunk driving by demanding every car maker install a sensor in the ignition, or you might choose to increase taxes on alcohol to make it less accessible; one focuses on taking a choice away from the individual, the other on creating an environment that leads the individual to drinking less.

@whitequark hi, I suppose it becomes important when judging the actions of someone: when a crime is committed, is the perpetrator to blame, or the environment s/he grew up in, or an abusive parent, or a substance? And it becomes even more important when you try to prevent future crimes because you make certain predictions: if there is only free will, you will focus more on individuals; if an individual's actions are the result of something else, you will focus on that instead.
