Last year, I wrote about how Google Scholar was one of the few remaining instances where search works.

It is not perfect. But it works especially if you know the specific keyword that you are up to.

Google included AI on Google Scholar, which as they claim will

"analyzes [sic] your question to identify key topics, aspects and relationships, then searches all of them on Scholar"

So in simpler terms, you are expected to type your research question/s and it will come back to you with papers relevant to your work.

Sounds good? Sure, if youre only looking for papers to back up your Dunning Kruger.

But that is NOT how research works. I cant remember how many back and forth I have had with my research arguments because I found a strong counterargument. That is what makes research research.

You are not just living in your vivid hallucinations that your premise is gospel from the beginning. You are researching to PROVE, DISPROVE (quanti) or EXPLAIN (quali).

Question. For people who require Alt-text, I want to know if the 'AI'-generated ones actually help. Ive been seeing this as the go-to method for many recently.

I know my alt-text isnt perfect either. And 'AI' alt text probably better than no alt text at all (citation needed)

But I feel like they're somehow counterproductive given how the resulting text dont usually take into account the nuances of the image. I could be wrong.

But if you ask 'AI' to process an image of a woman smiling. It will just describe it as such, but if youre the photographer and you know that was taken after a typhoon or something, youd write it differently from the way the machine did.

Its baffling how western liberals assume that indigenous sovereignty is a western country issue. I was speaking to a few people about how Southeast Asia treats its indigenous population, gave context of the situation in Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines and Indonesia.

We have 100+ indigenous groups in the Philippines.
