@a1ba @captainarcee it seems to only depend on the SIM and Network. I have an old nokia with LCD screen, and it only likes _some_ SIM cards. Deutsche Telekom is a good bet. But if it works, it's reliable.

Does anyone here who is at congress need a laptop but cant reasonably aquire one (finacially or otherwise)? A friend got a stack of about 15 laptops and we'll be bringing about 6-8 to 39c3. Most are capable of dealing with the state of software in 2025 (>=8GB ram, >=256GB SSD, decent CPU). About half need a new battery.

The main goal is to get them a life where they'll be used well, not just for a side-project. Ideally, they'll go to entities who could not really get ones themselves.

@SuperDicq @N33R it's worse than that. is hasn't figured out you like that stuff, but rather that feeding you that causes you to stay on platform. these algorithms are not designed to thow you things you want to see, but only to keep a pair of eyeballs glued to the ad-infested screen

The screen of my galaxy s5 has gotten progressivly more fucked over the last weeks, flickering yellow at too low display brightnesses with the threshold rising and lately struggleing to turn on at all. Had it display a white screen at max bright for a few hours and it seems normal again, at least for now...

anyone have a clue why this worked? I hope it's not just temperature related...

@lanodan Maybe whatever they trained it on lacked faces similar to @kuriko's... Would not put it past some "AI business".
