@strypey @julian I know you know this but to clarify for anyone who might not have realised: git is open source by Linus Torvalds and is beautiful, github.com is a site owned by Microsoft and is not related to git at all.

Now you've reminded me of the hybrid Cybermind Conference I ran in 1996! We used a MOO for the online interactive space (which was visible on a side screen at all times), and streamed everything from the main venue on RealAudio and CU-SeeMe!

@aral @laura Apart from the premise... were the funders on that page related to the non-profit organisation that's folding actually, it's not really clear - what an extremely confusing organisation … 🤯

@aral This is all too manual/complex to be sustainable of course, the spammers will win eventually. I hope eventually this will be something we can automate in #mastodon with servers subscribing to someone we trust to keep such a #blocklist up-to-date in real time.

Then again, I fear we’d slide into the same situation as email, where all-powerful blocklist companies control the flow of everything, and if someone puts you into one of those lists, enjoy the months of fighting it will take to get off them (if you can).

Anyone know some existing middle-ground solution/proposal that could work for collaboratively inoculating against spam in the #fediverse?

There's no obvious way yet in the ActivityPub plugin.
