@p@dsm PLAN 9 PLAN 9 PLAN 9 I LOVE PLAN 9 IM OBSESSIN WITH PLAN 9 I <3 PLAN 9 GLENDA IF YOU SAY PLAN9 OR #gnot ON GIKOPOI YOU TURN INTO GLENDA PLAN9PLAN9PLAN9
@p yeah i am enjoying dead cells, but i think spamming #jp and demanding they buy me dead cells was better than actually playing dead cells even though i thoroughly enjoy all the DLCs (thanks @dsm) .... a good puzzle or programming is more lasting in entertainment than games for me. however, it is nice to have toys to tinker with, and steam deck does provide me with that fun at times.
i have a thinkpad r52 that has supervisor password lock on BIOS, so i think when i get off my lazy ass and get to shorting the cmos battery or circuit, i'll make it into my plan9 box, which was kind of the idea after i made the space glenda gikopoi avatar. i'll definitely post pics of my progress with that, possibly this summer
@waltercool@p steam deck is decent, playing indie games i get like 5-6 hours. playing anything intense or emulating switch, maybe 2-3 hours. so i can imagine if i am just watching movies or reading epubs, it'd be awhile.
@p i have a steam deck for emulation and gaming, so i'd prefer to use that. However, DS/3ds are not really that great on a steam deck imo, so that is why i like the phone. Perhaps i would invest in another device for that purpose of ds/3ds, but for now what i got works.
i am interested in getting an alternative for e-reading, and i probably will start using the steam deck even for that purpose, but i also like having a decent sized screen for jumping btwn 2 epubs (if i am referencing 2 at the same time). so again, its just what works for now. Problem i have though with e-reading is my head starts to hurt from reading intensely on a screen for more than 10 min so i have to take frequent breaks. so i was thinking of buying an actual e-reader to be better on the eyes and thus possibly my brain... i like your DevTerm a lot though. lots of things to consider for the future, and i'm open to suggestions
@p i like how rms states "... I learned that portable phones make many people's lives oppressive, because they feel compelled to spend all day receiving and responding to text messages which interrupt everything else. Perhaps my decision to reject this convenience for its deep injustice has turned out best in terms of convenience as well." from https://stallman.org/rms-lifestyle.html
I personally don't find any of what a phone does to be truly convenient. (mostly just speaking about normies, that find it easier to just "google it" instead of go over to an alt. search engine, and this goes for lots of situations/choices) the situation I am in, I have to have a phone sadly. When my parole is up, I will be sure to have an Android that is not hooked up to any network, for the purpose of having an on the go GB/GBC/GBA/DS/3DS emulator and also e-reader (light novels, philosophy books, programming, norse mythology, you name it)... i find the inconvenient part of a smartphone is having apps with lots of notifications, this is ADHD inducing and multi-task culture which is very counter-productive in nature.
smartphones are essentially fancy ankle monitors, in my experience, if used as connected to a network. otherwise, they are just a portable computer with some convenience if you limit what it is used for. (through will power and discipline, i limit my phone use every week, and i can imagine once i'm rid of texting and phone calls, i'll be using it only in public situations where i just want to read something while waiting or play a game while waiting, etc.)
@p i've decided i'm going with ps4 controller and instead of the 8bitdo micro: 8bitdo M30 (which is a bluetooth mega drive inspired controller).
- ps4 controller for games that demand sticks, i've always liked sony controllers in terms of playing games with sticks, ps2 was my shit - 8bitdo m30 for reading epubs/pdf when my chair is kicked back or even as a remote for when i wanna kick back on the bed and watch media
i'll still use my NES usb controllers for LSDJing though, because of simplicitity.
@p i might not agree with all of his points, but i like alternate opinions as its good for mold breaking. i'd rather be challenged than accepted, as challenges to my opinions helps me think and refine my thinking. i can't exactly get on board completely with rms or fsf because it is very difficult to manage life as it is without certain products or tools. i think to live a life like rms would be highly impossible for me to do, and if possible very limiting. i think there is a certain extent of convenience that exists in the current state of things (smartphones, apps, etc), that is really hard to reach from the rms or free software realm of thinking. it isn't something i'm happy about, and i try my best to adhere to principles of freedom, etc etc but i'm not perfect, and all i can do is lead by example even if all the code i share is just funny bots for irc or gikopoi or some little side project
NY has a place called shake shack, that expanded in the last 10 years, which i still haven't tried. people say it crushes a lot of burger places here (we do not have carl's jr, whataburger, in-n-out, fatburger). not sure though, it looks to me like an A&W place or something? (ever have that?) to me, A&W isn't bad but it is overpriced. also: there's a place in the PNW called burgerville, and they are VERY good.
@p yeah honestly, i dont even consider mcdonalds to be burgers at this point. and sonic is terrible too. I grew to enjoy wendy's a lot more as i got older, so my list is similar to this. i like a lot of stuff at burger king like chicken fries not rly the burgers tho. never had fatburger or in-n-out. im not as eager to fuck with whataburger or in-n-out if you say wendy's is better than it. i'll still try em if i get the chance, but to avoid disappointment ill just say not to expect much
@stelo@p you will never find RMS wearing shirts with logos or printed letters, also no ties (i am anti-tie myself), see "Clothing" https://stallman.org/rms-lifestyle.html forget where he wrote about how he loves to pin stuff on clothes, but I find this website informative, but I dislike the black text and white background only, too much whitespace that is unbalanced and it is like staring into a lightbulb, so on firefox i toggle reader view
