From the moment I first arrived in #Colombia people have laughed nervously about how I close car doors. Apparently we Europeans do so with excessive force.

I always felt like "whatever, I (and many people around me) close doors like that all the time and it's fine. Cars can handle it."

Fast forward to today: we're renting a car from an acquaintance, and guess what, the plastic inside of the door fell off.

The question: crazy coincidence? Or do carmakers adjust car door strength to continents?

Wij maken al jaren gebruik van Perusall, waarin studenten samen - in de browser - teksten lezen en reageren op elkaars commentaar. Die comments worden met AI (machine learning) op kwaliteit beoordeeld.

Studenten zijn over het algemeen positief over de dynamiek en "de stok achter de deur" van het "samen lezen".

Maar die AI scores... Voelt niet goed.

Interessant hoe voor sommige mensen "met AI" hetzelfde begint te betekenen als "met computers".

Mensen beginnen al te vergeten dat er voor GenAI ook al computers waren.

Now I am willing to pay a small monthly fee, but whenever I choose "Reject all and subscribe to Guardian Ad-Lite for €5 per month" I am brought back to the blocker.

It says:

Fediverse! Last year I shared this emergency call on behalf of one of our students.

Like many students in Amsterdam, she was desperate to find a room to continue her studies, but her #autism made it impossible for her to join the room race/ competition.

In the end she did not find a room and she had to stop her studies and go home.

But now she just let me know that she wants to try again for the upcoming semester (Sept & onwards).

So we are once again reaching out!

Does anyone know anyone?
