I've been buying cds of the music on my playlists. (I had pretty much quit buying music when streaming became ubiquitous.)(I need cds of my old vinyl). A lot my music is in short supply, but so far I've been able to find most of it, though sometimes I have to order from overseas. A lot of what I've looked for is cheap because it's old. Remastered isn't necessarily better; sometimes I just want what I had. Mostly, though, I don't want to be without my music. Not just music. MY music.

Don't tell me "don't look away." There's no value to me in immersing myself in the depravity of this administration. I inform myself as best I can, I see what's being posted. I don't need to be made to feel guilty for pacing myself. I can decide on my own where to heap my rage and outrage and when to work in my garden or bake cookies. There. I said it.

No one should be surprised anymore that big media is big money's whore. But I thought by now there would be a competing mainstream voice. Without one, how does the truth get out? Not broadcast news, not talk radio. Do we assume that people with full time jobs and families and the cares of the world on their shoulders can carve out time to fact check what they hear? How do they know they should? An uninformed electorate is easy pickins.

No one more thing. I moved to a rural area a couple-few years ago and had no internet and limited cell phone options. For several months my only news source was broadcast news. Everything was fine, everything was sane, the world wasn't on fire. Then reliable-ish cell service moved into the area and I got a promotional high-data cell plan for cheap. Started following quality news sources gain and guess what. Everything was most definitely NOT FINE. That experience was an education. Ok now fin.

Too right. I got out of education just in time. The national dumbing down that became obvious in the Bush years was already driving me up a tree and barking from the branches. Now folks are proudly aligning their health care decisions with their politics and think science defiance will protect them from gravity.

Things have been unpredictable the past couple years. Family, friends, pets, nature, society....More and more I've been keeping my head down, waiting for the other shoe to drop, second guessing myself, fearful, deleting deleting deleting. It's not that I'm feeling a greater sense of control, but something has shifted. In life and online I'm less reluctant to engage, less sad. I'm at an age where loss is always just around the corner, but I think I've found my center again. Glad to be back. 🤞
