    @georgia@netzsphaere.xyz as long as youre not playing triple A games, and you're not using windows like a sucker, it's fine. more than enough actually. i've run full IDEs and multitasked on a 15 yr old laptop with less than that and it works fine

    You're still using Windows, you have not fixed the problem if you are still allowing a proprietary Microsoft program to control your computer. "Bypassing" the account requirement does not actually bypass jack shit and this is not an excuse.

I agree that appealing to computer illiterate users is detrimental when taken too far, but I do not think this is an excuse to deny the general population encouragement to free themselves. They are better here than there. We have more control over the Linux experience as end users. When they enshittify it as they've already been doing, it will be harder for the RedHat/Microsoft cult to maintain an iron grip like what Windows allows. We still lose the ecosystem, but we make any "muh user friendly" numbing unenforceable and create a gateway for freedom to seep back in when people get tired again. Just look at what happened to XOrg. Still not dead, infact people are more vocally against Wayland's creeping now than ever.

    Plus, GNOME design elitists and similar are blind to their users regardless. It doesn't matter how many new users turn over or not because they are going to keep pretending they are at the forefront of "user friendly Linux" since it is a power fantasy for them. The correct response is to bring new users over but inform them of the better options they have, that individual choice does not have to be scary and user friendliness does not mean mimicking a cell phone. People who want to turn us back into passive consumers are not going to stop at "there are no users" because they're out of touch and see enthusiasts as potential conversion anyway (that or they call us all fascists, because when politics are involved that is considered a "win" in their book).

    Microsoft finally realized Linux is winning.

    Despite all of the RedHat bribing. And the lobotomization of their users.

    Nobody wants to use Windows.

    Suddenly, they are listening because the negative press is hurting their control over the industry. They will go right back to abusing their users once they get what they want. Don't give it to them.

    I trust Proton more than Nord etc. but yeah like any "privacy" provider that gets too big they eventually fall off. I wouldn't use them to do anything I don't want my local glowie looking at. You can't even register for an account through Tor. And idk if they let you pay with Monero.

    @ceo_of_monoeye_dating@lab.nyanide.com Using Fedora as a desktop OS is a major pain now that Red Hat is trying really hard to kill any remaining good it has left. Methinks Microsoft is paying them.

    I hate to be "that guy" but use Arch, hardly any reason to use anything else. Rarely comes with any bullshit, very openly documented, and the community equally supports both the pro-redhat pro-rust people and the pro-functionality users and just works for whatever people want to use it with.

    If you want to stick with RH-like I would highly recommend one of the Mandriva forks

    The words "You don't get to own Program" should never, ever, ever be uttered by an organization supposedly dedicated to Free Software.

    This is yet another gigantic mask-off moment for Red Hat Inc. and the GNOME foundation, it should be a wakeup call to every computer user and yet the corporate shot heard 'round the world is yet again ignored.
