I think most people know not to mess with 23 and Me or other genetic testing operations. It's all very sketchy. But, also the tests they do and the way they analyze the data tells you very little. My mom has done a lot of paper and interview research on our ancestry and we were able to find out that our ancestors were brought to the US about 200 years ago, and we know where they worked, but not exactly where they came from in West Africa. 1/

Thursday is more of a Monday than Monday is. Because you keep thinking it's gotta be Friday by now but it's not. You'd never think that about Monday. Everyone knows Monday is Monday and frankly we deserve it. But no one *deserves* Thursday. Not like this.

Replacing every search engine with a 30s paper boy who doesn't really listen to what you ask for, runs off to get it before you get done explaining, and always gets waylaid by flimflam men who pay him a nickel to bring back something other than what you asked for along the way.

I saw the queen of my Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony! She was hiding for like two months in the "secret chamber" they made deep in the log. But today she was in a visible part of the nest. It was so nice to see her and she seems to be doing well. Still a huge black ant.

I love this colony so much. They are so easy to feed and care for and they always pile their garbage so neatly so I can remove it. When I tap the water feeder they get off so I can refill it. Very classy ants.

I think I don't want to teach middle school math because that is when math almost lost me forever. Not being able to use a calculator was absurd to me. After I proved I could do the algorithms WHY did I have to keep suffering and doing little sums in my head and wondering what 7*8 was 54? 56? ugh.

I don't want to be responsible for making math tedious for anyone. That's criminal.

This school is interesting because I will have a student in middle school CS but then see them years later in Calculus as a Junior.

I wonder what it's like to have the same math and CS teachers popping up through your education like that...

What's wild is that I also teach upper school courses, calculus, statistics... but these are the easiest to prep for since I've taught them before and it's mostly about getting to know the students and tweaking things so they work for the current class.

I'm trying to decide if I'll keep doing this next year or stomp my feet and demand to teach fewer subjects.

I love doing projects with the students. So, if I don't die from all this lesson planning maybe I'll still with the "chaos schedule"

I have a kind of horrible teaching schedule this year because I didn't want to teach middle school math. So, instead of teaching two sections of a course with all the lesson plans ready I have THREE DIFFERENT middle school computer science and tech class where I have to make all new material.

A lot of work, but more fun and creative. And once I have the lessons it'll be easier. But, I'm questioning my distaste for middle school math.

I mean fractions are fun. But you can't get too complex.
