@cinebox would need to figure out some cursed create-and-activate-swap-only-at-hibernate thing for it because I do not want to be swapping to SSD in normal operation -

Updated mesa to 26.1.5 because it apparently has fixes on big-endian. Stuff doesn't crash any more! However, it also doesn't render. Hm. -

@georgia I was under the impression that there are some caveats that are pretty fundamental to the platform but I haven't seriously looked into it since around the M2 era -

fun fact if you want your AGP graphics card to actually run in AGP mode rather than PCI 66Mhz mode you need to force it with nouveau.config=NvAGP=XYZ where the XYZ is maybe a bit field? 1 seems to be 4x, 2 seems to be 4x with fast writes (doesn't work), bit 3 doesn't seem to do shit, XYZ=8 seems to give you 8x mode
of course none of these will actually result in a working system, they just make xorg fall over when you run startx
I'm going to bed -

Notably the nvidia driver NvAGP param is an index into an enum where you pick between the nvidia AGP driver and the kernel builtin AGP driver
