@chris The older laptop doesn't really choke on anything outside of Reddit (which I found surprising) and YouTube (which I kind of expect because the video). Everything else has been just fine. I have Debian 12 with bspwm running on it and everything else just moves along nicely, including WordPress for my blogs.

@chris I have 1Blocker running in Safari on the Apple devices and that's been doing quite well.

Do others still consider uBlock Origin the primary extension for ad wrangling in Firefox (and associated forks) or should I be considering something else?

I just unpaired my Apple Watch from my iPhone. It would appear there’s a few bugs in the Health app in that scenario.

@m2m I just wrote about a realization I had around the fitness aspect of the Apple Watch, and that's the dopamine addiction to the gamification of the exercise rings. I didn't even realize it was something I was experiencing.

At the very least I'm realizing that I've bought into a lot of marketing hype over the years.

I went on Reddit with my ThinkPad T460s today (maxed out configuration in regards to CPU and RAM), and the fans kicked on and CPU usage shot up to nearly 90%. Usually that sort of response is reserved for YouTube on this machine. A message and discussion board type of website should not be cranking up the CPU usage on any computer, regardless of how old the computer. I can only deduce there's a lot of behind the scenes cruft and gunk going on with Reddit.

48 hours into Ubuntu 25.04 and it has been flawless. No hiccups, no weirdness. I'm impressed. #linux

@m2m I haven't even fired up Evolution yet. I'll need to check that out.

I remember when Ximian Gnome released Evolution for the first time over 20 years ago and it was a delight.

I'm reading that Musk and friends are going to completely replace the COBOL code running government systems in some unrealistic time frame.

Call me old fashioned, but if the systems are working and doing what they're suppose to do, why would you want to rip all of that out? There is another option:

@chris I'm using the PiAware setup (link included), but I'm also feeding the data to ADS-B Exchange. I'll probably update the Pico to a more robust Raspberry Pi, but for now it's been working well. Let's see how it does with handling the desert heat in a month or so.

Flight schools are busy today. I love having an ADS-B receiver on the roof. It's a nifty little setup, knowing I'm pulling in the data to my own stack instead of relying on services like FlightAware. #geek #privatepilot

@chris I’m also considering just going with one of the Casio G-Shock models instead, but I do like GPS when I’m out exploring.
