Personally I look at deltachat/chatmail as email v2 a la carte.
I use it in classic unencrypted mode for one [classic] email account, and another [chatmail] account for encrypted DM's.

Btw. what happens if we both change our chatmail adress to 'john@samemailchatserver.io'?

The case for https://delta.chat is not IF, but WHEN.

before deltachat: slow email stored on servers, clunky outlook interface

since deltachat:
* modern messenger UX
* fast chatmail stored on your device(s)
* import contact by scanning QR-code
* no SPAM or commercial middleman
* just email (no 1001 messenger apps)
