I just mailed a parcel of gifts to my US family and holy shit is it a nightmare. You *have* to use some US tech companies phone app that demands location permissions. It reaaaally wants you to take pictures of everything you are sending so it can use AI to determine what tariffs to charge.

Then, you have to prepay the duties (plus extra fees, because fuck you) and they give you a code that Canada Post uses to prove you've paid.

This will be the last thing I send to the US.

I get recall notices from the government every day - and for the last like 3 months every single one has contained recalls for pistachios due to salmonella. Basically - avoid pistachios for awhile.

Anyway - today the recall notice included ground beef for E. Coli so I thought "hey that's new - wonder what's up with that" so I open it up and..

Been learning to crochet over the past few days!

Worked on the stem of a mushroom yesterday - slowly getting better at not only counting stitches but also figuring out which one is the "first" stitch in a round. I got a clicky stitch counter and that sure helps my ADHD ass a lot!

I think one of the things that stopped me from getting in to this before is that I can't stand wool or acrylic yarn in my hands - but if I use cotton I really like the feel of it! Just one of the ways accepting my autism has helped me...

Microsoft sold Office 365/OneDrive to my employer with "Unlimited Data!" but now suddenly it's $5,000/month for each 10TB of storage used over 400TB. This will end up costing the organization ~$400k/year (and the data grows 20TB every month).

This is classic "Cloud" shit - they get you hooked with free shit and then charge a fortune for it.

Also, I figure MS was happy for all the data to run their LLMs against and now don't want to store it anymore.

There has got to be a better way to include nonbinary people than "trans women are women, trans men are men, and nonbinary people are valid"

I know we kinda mess up the slogan with our weirdness but I don't really love being told I'm "valid" all the time. I am exactly what I say I am, the same as any binary trans person.

Maybe I'm just being grumpy..

Seeing a lot of variations on the dominoes memes where the first piece being knocked over is "Trans Rights" and I just want to gently remind everyone that we're not the first piece.

How quick was society to abandon disabled people (not that it ever really supported disabled people)? How quick were people to "go back to normal" with COVID, ensuring disabled people have to risk their lives to go to the grocery store or the doctor? How many medications used to treat chronic conditions are being restricted? How many places have brought in MAID while cutting benefits to disabled people?

Disability comes for us all. Show some solidarity - wear a mask. Protect yourself both from government surveillance AND from the various deadly pathogens roaming freely.

Canada Post doesn't "lose money". It's a service, it *costs* money. No one ever says the military "loses" billions of dollar a year. No one says the RCMP loses money. No one ever says the police "lose" money.

But when it's something that benefits people - suddenly it's not a cost, it's a loss.

Looking for some suggestions - are there any #linux servers/apps that act as either an Airplay *Receiver* or a Google Cast receiver? :boost_ok:

I have a Raspberry Pi hooked up to a small stereo to act as a bit of a jukebox for my Plex music collection, and until last month I was able to also stream Tidal to it through Plexamp. Unfortunately, Plex removed that functionality so I am looking for something that will report itself as a Google or Airplay speaker so I can at least cast music to it from my phone.
