@Infoseepage We visited there in 1999. I remember a long walk in dismal rain along the peninsula. Don't remember the castle much but the cafe did a nice bowl of soup and had a Mac with internet access, which we thought was quite swanky at the time.
@Infoseepage I've seen plenty Anglo-American WWII films where all the Germans speak English to each other. It even happens in The Great Escape if I remember rightly.
@Infoseepage@Geri I've been on buses most of the day and missed this implausible occurrence which I have just now googled incredulously.
Would I be accused of cynicism if I were to suggest that this prize has been invented by sycophants for the sole and deliberate purpose of arselicking? I mean nobody working for actual world peace is going to want the prize next year are they... It would be a slur to any subsequent recipient to be placed in such company.
@Infoseepage Before I became veggie I used to eat whelks, which are only small, and you get those out with a pin. So I guess it will be a larger version of the same.
@Infoseepage If you're ever back in North East England, a TNE day saver will get you on any bus service in the region, as well as the Tyne&Wear Metro and a few rail services for £7.50.
@badnetmask@BrideOfLinux I'm left handed too. I guess the idea is that these shortcuts, being on the RHS of the keyboard, would make it easier to keep my left hand on the mouse while I operate the keyboard with my right hand. Whereas Ctrl-C + Ctrl-V are better if you prefer to mouse with your right hand while using the keyboard with your left. Offering both sets of shortcuts actually looks like a sensible feature to me.
@georgemonbiot.bsky.social I'd say the litmus test of a politically unbiased organisation is that everyone of every political persuasion thinks that it is biased against them. I get enraged by some stuff on the Beeb, but it enrages me considerably less than any other media organisation. I'll settle for that.
@Infoseepage I got given a 10kmAh power bank by my employer. I worry about walking around with a matchbox containing 1/4 of a car battery in energy, so the not exploding part is very important.
@Infoseepage You are right. The reason I get to gloat about not being addicted to MS products is that 25 or so years ago I made a conscious decision to ignore them and Just Do Unix. But when people talk about dropping X11 support in favour of Wayland (for example) I get that "I've used it for decades" feeling myself. On top of that, I've recently got my very first smartphone just prior to realising that I really need to drop Android forever too.
