香港を離れてもう17年目になるけど、数字の14を見ると今でもぎゃー実死(サッセイ→広東語の14の発音サップセイに似ている。確実に命を落とすという意味)！縁起悪っ！となる。

I’m looking for a second-hand bookshop in the Kanda Jimbo-cho area that has a good selection of manga translated into English. My daughter is really keen to visit one when she’s back in Japan.

📕 Knife (Salman Rushdie)

I’m a slow reader, but I tore through this in 3 days!
The book recounts the stabbing attack on Rushdie in 2022.
It’s as if his physical and existential vulnerability made his mind stronger. Rushdie’s words, laced with humour and irony, are more powerful than senseless hate out there.

2022年8月、刃物で全身10箇所を刺され片目を失明したサルマン・ラシュディが、事件とその後の暮らしや人との関わり、犯人への思いを振り返る回顧録、『ナイフ』。
200+ページにわたって「とりあえず自分がやりたいように生きることにした」とシンプルに宣言しているだけの本だけど、ユーモアとアイロニー溢れる軽妙な筆致で、遅読家の私でもさくっと読めました。
