Every donation makes a huge difference at this point. Like, if you give $100 now, you'll change the first two numbers of what we need from 34 to 33!
This is really going to be a tense one!

Eep, just 2 days to raise $34k to meet our match challenge - we've been working so hard this year with great results.... did you see our recent news about the AVM enforcement action? Check out the OpenWrt One? Hear about the DMCA exemptions we secured? Heard the success stories of our @outreachy alums? Played with a source candidate on Use the Source? Not only is that just some of our recent work but there's more news coming soon!
*please* donate and spread the word:
It's now time for the last Outreachy/SFC AMA!

If you missed it, we're doing another in about 10 hours!
SFC/Outreachy AMA happening in 2 minutes!!!

I love this article by @sphakos about their thoughts about software freedom and recovering from injury. I find it really moving:
"Why do we decide an object is beyond repair, and must be replaced by something expensive and new? Why do companies put out products that easily break physically, or will become obsolete or insecure due to a lack of software updates?"
https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2025/jan/06/embroidery-and-resilient-software-freedom-in-2025/
They also created an incredible cross stitch work that will go to an SFC donor!
@sima I love that, good point!
So the fact that this is the last day in 2024 is fairly arbitrary, and generally not notable. But if this causes you to donate to @conservancy today over other days: today is the last chance to donate in 2024 to SFC! Please support our work. We have until 1/15 to raise about $90k. We can do it!

Also, while arbitrary, it's still a nice marking of the time - happy new year! Come have a beverage with us at our AMA in 20 minutes!

join the @conservancy AMA in just over 10 minutes!

@pjf sorry, I can't resist! Have you forgotten to donate to your favorite charities? :)
We're having another @conservancy chat tonight, (6pm pacific/9am eastern/1pm AEDT) you can ask us anything! (Link pasted at the time, or I can send it privately to you). We're doing another tomorrow at (9:30am pacific/12:30pm eastern/6:30pm CET). Things you could ask: what's it like being a cyborg? What progress have you made in copyleft enforcement this year?
I'm excited just to have a new years hang out!
We're almost halfway to our goal, if you can, donate now!
@baconandcoconut @mrchrisadams Hi yes! We did have a few air filters last year at FOSDEM, and we're planning to bring them back. We also did have air monitoring at FOSSY, and I expect we'll bring one or two of those to FOSDEM too.
@josef Unfortunately every.org doesn't support donations less than $10, but you could make a one-time donation!
Love this piece by @pono
"Whether it’s liberating farming equipment so that we can repair the software on tools vital for food production or making sure that the internet connected devices in our homes are not spying on us, our stewardship for the Earth and for the digital spaces we occupy are not distinct but intertwined."

Lovely people on the fedi - we at @conservancy are trying to raise money to earn a match challenge... we're already about 65% of the way there, please help us spread the word about all of the great work SFC is doing - @outreachy internships for folks that are disadvantaged! Copyleft advocacy and defense! And being the home of too many amazing projects to list here (but Git@reproducible_builds@fosstodon.org ! OpenWrt! Microblocks!)
https://sfconservancy.org/sustainer/
And ask me anything about our work!
@dexter We want one too! I was asking around a little while ago, and someone recommended the Prusa one, but it's over $700, so I'm still saving up. Let me know if you find something good!
@vmbrasseur in addition to the literature, anecdotally AFAICT things are just as bad or even worse now than when I was a kid, and I was overtly told in high school by the calculus teacher that girls aren't good at math. I'm proud at how we hear that @outreachy gives people opportunities to try their hand at technical work that they were discouraged from doing when they were younger, but the number of people that are lost, who will never pursue technical material as an adult is astounding.
And thank you so so much to floss.social mods, looking at you @downey
Ugh, I just made my first LinkedIn post, begging people to come in as @outreachy sponsors and spreading the word on the @conservancy fundraising drive. So I'm just here to express my appreciation for this much much better platform and community. <3
Being a part of Librecast, I'm very grateful to folks in my ecosystem who give us help and support.
Folks who package us for Debian as part of @reproducible_builds
Due to our packagers hard work we are in the Debian ecosystem, and the guix ecosystem.
#ReproducibleBuilds are one of the projects hosted by @conservancy
The annual fundraiser for the Conservancy and it's projects is running now until January 15th, if they can raise $204,887, it will be doubled.
