@rasmusfleischer not like that's a new thing per se, people wrote v similar diatribes back in the day about the loveparade class of 96, paul oakenfold, tiësto, you name them. only difference is social media wasn't a thing back then.
@rasmusfleischer still not sure if their success can be primarily ascribed to them catering to algorithm or if it's rather the experiential side of it. not like i've kept tabs on her, but i think peggy gou also showed them the way in the sense that she perfected the eventisation of pop-compatible house music as an instagrammable mass spectacle.
@rasmusfleischer you're not missing out, no. long story short they modelled their brand after what innervisions were doing, but in a more bigroom/pop-adjacent way with a bit of a hip hop elements here and there, though the afro house influence also became quite pronounced in especially &me's music. I think watergate as a club facilitated that, it was p open to afro house artists like black coffee and culoe de sang early on. keinemusik just turned that into the perfect crossover recipe imho.
@rasmusfleischer literally just finished reading this, and i have been mulling over this passage in particular. keinemusik was founded in 2009, and the basic elements of all this were there p much from the start, and what the article glosses over a little is how popular those ppl were in germany in the mid-2010s already. i think it is possible to argue that they have not only mastered this formula, but that they helped usher in this paradigm in the first place.
@rasmusfleischer i still find it somewhat puzzling that UMG would buy shares of / give loans to NTS, do you have any clue what the strategic aim might be there? sure, grainge and his goons are buying up indie distros left and right, and electronic music is booming, but i can't imagine that this is a financially profitable investment for UMG!?
@MastodonEngineering Please don't do this. Design choices that allow users to quite literally put their opinion above someone else's statements are absolutely poisoneous for any attempts to create an egalitarian communcation.
