โ โNever againโ must mean never again by anyone, against anyone. If this call is not applied to Palestinians, there can never realistically be any hope that others will apply it to Jews โ especially in an era in which so much anti-Semitism goes ignored because it does not fit into the pro-Israel/pro-Palestine dichotomy.โ
Reading the news is unbearable and depressing. Better to read some sci-fi classic about a people oppressed by an empire who extracts all it can from the peopleโs native land and portrays them as ignorant primitive terrorists when they fight back.
I really canโt figure out how authors could envisioning such a world
@aral Per his own words, he is a Zionist and Zionism is a settler colonialist racist ideology. I guess it's pretty self-explanatory. What really defies logic, it's why he's so committed to it to actually jeopardise his re-election and giving Trump a free pass. All while flirting with a religious racist fanatic that can't wait for Trump to come back.
And it's probably worth to underline that many Jewish voices are being silenced, investigated, trialed or dismissed, in something that Masha Gessen pointed as a more subtle form of antisemitism, a one that still perpetrates Jews but uses some of them (the ones that want to feel white and powerful) to push a wider racist agenda
@fulelo oh please, spear us. The US should stop arming the perpetrator of this war. Thatโs what they should do and the right thing to do. The American press is just unbearable and hypocritical.
As I woke up with the outrageous news that #Israel was bombing #Rafah exactly at the exact time of the Superbowl where a Pro-Israeli ad was broadcast, I reached my tipping point. The fact that we are in such a low point that the discussion for allowing this massacre to continue revolves around establishing if this is "genocide" or simply a "slaughter", as if the latter is somehow justifiable, it's simply unbearable.
@aral well, the EU has already said it expects Israel to comply immediately. The Court could have done more, but I think that taking in South Africa's case, declaring that Israel might be committing genocide is a big blow for Israel. It's not a historical victory, but still a win for South Africa and the official acknowledgement that Palestinians as a people exist and the ICJ must protect them. It's a tiny progress, but still a progress.
@aral Gosh, Israelis politicians' comments day after day sometimes make me think they were just waiting for a terrorist attack so that they could go rogue and having a moral excuse for it.
@be@aral I've seen the news, and going full conspiratorial is easy. Information at the moment is so murky I prefer not to make statements, also out of respect of all the people mourning and being affected by the situation. I prefer not to believe that a govmt will allow something so tragic to happen just so they can have their cleansing war. But I alos think it's clear that the level of Isrealis politicians' talking doesn't help people thinking otherwise.
I found today that there are some downside in being mostly in this amazing ad-free space that the #fediverse is. I check my Facebook account everyday for notification-only, as many people still use it sometimes to get in touch with me. Today, casually, I decided to scroll. And OMG.
Not only 90% are ads (and encouragement to join their dating app!), but a large part of them are scams. And tbh, one almost got me, as my 'alert' sense seems to be duller by not having to constantly double-check every post. Which, I mean, from one POV, it's great: between being mostly in the fedi and all ad-blockers and browser full privacy on, my current web experience is almost smooth (still need to deal with search ads and some that apparently escape)
@aral Well, should I start with the UK policy on it? Like, let's play a game on who has the worst COVID vaccination policies: and for once, no, it's not the US
