Hope for the best but plan for the worst.

I think that everyone now needs to think about what they say on public networks through the lens of how it might someday be used against you in an adversarial and perhaps even legal environment. This is especially true on systems controlled by corporate and government entities.

I also think any personal communication needs to be kept on encrypted and if possible on self hosted networks.

There has been a political sea change. Plan accordingly.

I think it's important to restate this morning that our instance at https://thecanadian.social is 100% privately and securely hosted in Canada 🇨🇦. We can physically lay hands on the equipment 24/7, and know exactly where it's located. Data sovereignty has always been a top priority.

@mike@flipboard.social @jay.bsky.team It might be the old curmudgeon in me but I can't really get behind Bluesky as a federation protocol. It all just seems too centrally guided and somewhat closed off. I understand Jay is an exceptionally gifted forward thinker and tech executive but I remain apprehensive. I very much wish Bluesky would've just become a leader in the activity pub world, or at the very least offered a native bridge.

@mshallop @tchambers The tech in those is actually a miracle. It's a glimpse of a product that could be as much of a game changer as the smart phone. I'm just glad it exists..

@whitehouse @potus @tchambers I always thought that this was the great underreported virtue of universal health care in Canada. If I didn't have universal health care available to me and had to rely on an employer to cover me I would probably have never quit my job to start our company. It's also an expense I don't have to worry about as an employer.
