New versions of Mastodon are fucking unusable. I was replying to someone from my alt and it made me literally angry. What a piece of shit software.

@prettygood I once created a GPT at work and called it Big Zipper. The avatar it made for itself was, of course, that, but for some reason it looked like a 'vagina dentata'. Maybe it's a bias in its programming. If you think about the people who write these things, it makes sense.

@prettygood For people, like me, who use NewPipe to listen to this, here's my advice: download the audio, because the video has no sound. Then listen to the episode using VLC or whatever. The good stuff starts at the 20-minute mark approximately.

@mangeurdenuage I'm not talking about complexity. I'm talking about how certain pieces of technology are made indispensable by capitalism. Cars were made indispensable by selling them as, basically, “freedom on wheels.” The same happens with mobile phones today: you need one to operate with your bank, you need it for work, most of your life is inside it. You should be able to interact with technology on your own terms, but it's getting more and more difficult. That's what I meant by “if a significant portion of your life depends on having any piece of technology on you at all times, you're a slave.” I love technology, but I want to be able to walk away from it whenever I feel like it.

I love how the author apologises in advance for her cartoon (“It's not a call to Luddism, I promise”), but every comment is basically: “Yes! Luddism is the answer!”

(I'm a computer programmer and I agree: Luddism is the answer. Also, we need to cut out the middlemen. They're parasites.)

@prettygood You know your condition better than me, so I'll refrain from giving advice on things I know shit about from now on. I just hope you don't have to go through that again.

And, yes, cooking tasty stuff without salt is definitely a talent.

@prettygood I had a friend who went through the same thing and he said they told him the whole stone was basically salt. My father had one too years ago and he loved salty food.

That said, I'm not a doctor, but I thought it was common knowledge. Maybe I'm wrong.

@hywan I wouldn't say it's good news to rewrite a fundamental part of every Linux system only to be able to relicense it in a way that is palatable to BigTech. With that approach, we all lose.
