> It is difficult for prospective parents or students to get a straight answer about the faculty workload at different institutions. But a reliable benchmark of fairness is the ratio of tenure-track faculty to contingent employees. If you see a lot of different titles—many “research professors” or “teaching professors” in a department with regular professors, or a high percentage of lecturers and instructors—that is a sign of a caste system. This does not mean that your child will not have a good experience there. Chances are good that all of those teachers are going to be giving their best, trying to make a difference. But chances are also good that your child will benefit from exploited labor.
> Of interest to us was that Mr Hibbins was his party's spokesperson on transport. Potentially a fantastic portfolio for an active Greens MP, Hibbins did not make full use of it, especially on public transport service issues under a government with a very contestable record. Instead Hibbins basically spruiked for the electric car lobby and lacked a vision for buses, the nearest and often only public transport for most Melburnians. Few public transport advocates would lament his departure.
@ninapaley Was there an announcement of the change?
To me a move from an own domain to .substack.com is a downgrade for the site owner in terms of autonomy etc. Also substack.com could go out of fashion one day (like medium.com), so it would be safer to at least mirror new posts. In any case it makes sense to keep heterodorx.com and what's already there.
To me as a reader/listener, with such a migration I'll still be able to read postings and listen to podcast episodes through RSS, but I won't be able to read the comments as easily because of all the javascript on substack - I'll have to launch tor browser or something for that. But comments are not a big deal.
