The black silken mud,
obsidian goaf
at the bottom of my cup of Turkish coffee,
IS the smoking mirror,
the enemy of light
by which I live.

@JessTheUnstill I told everyone I know "You vote for Trump, you vote to kill my daughter."
@f4grx @molly0xfff Another thing my mother used to say: Shoulda woulda coulda never did nothin’. I wish her ghost spoke that in my ear more much more often. I know, that’s a should woulda coulda. Thanks Mom. My fierce mom. My ferocious mom.
Grief Might Think It Was Grief
(To the Mothers)
I saw her from the bottom of the stars,
far in the sameness of the dripping pause.
I had dust in my yes and prayers for eyes:
butterflies of every grace at random flew
from room to room, in the dark, unbuilding
the crystal house. I opened the door to her last look.
Do not trust the sleepers within,
in their evasive bliss. She was lonely there too.
If she brings heaven down, again, out of song
and speed, grief might think it was grief.

Leonard Cohen died November 7, 2016.
@resl Better to be sad than depressed. There is a difference. Per Timothy Morton: “…learn to let it get on top of you…it’s not about releasing the grief…it’s the inner masseuse…it’s the past trying to give your future a massage.”
@simsa03 Nice variation on Ecclesiastes (Qoholeth) served with a Heraclitus twist.
@RustyBertrand From the Tempest. Ariel reporting to Prospero on the illusory tempest on the ship carrying Prospero's brother usurped him as Duke of Milan.
PROSPERO
But are they all safe, Ariel?
ARIEL
Not a hair perished.
@mos_8502 This is not a comment, just a stanza, from Galway Kinnell's Book of Nightmares (1971), brought to mind by your toot:
I assign my crooked backbone
to the dice maker, to chop up into dice,
for casting lots as to who shall see his own blood
on his shirt front and who his brother's,
for the race isn't to the swift but to the crooked.
@f4grx @molly0xfff My mother used to say two can keep a secret if one of them is dead. Mom did not live to see our brave new digital world. Now, in the age of the virtual panopticon, *one* can't keep a secret, even if they're dead.
@molly0xfff Don't record anything on the blockchain.

My daughter was just discharged from the Hospital. She can barely, walk, but she insisted on putting her ballot in the box herself.
@simsa03 My daughter is on a long road with dialysis upcoming and and we hope a kidney transplant soon, with pain all along the way, and possibly early death at the end of it. A vote for Trump is a vote continuing suffering and death sooner for her and many, many others. I’ve told Trump voters to their face they’re voting to kill my daughter.
Now I have to get my son-in-law and friend to the poll. May the best woman win.
#vote
I voted last Thursday, Elspeth this morning. We got to the local Orthodox Church that is our polling place a few minutes after 7am; there was already a line. But it moved along smoothly. I haven’t yet taken off my “I voted” wristband (I may have it bronzed, or I may burn it on a brazen altar to the nether gods, depending on the results). We took our customary after voting selfie in front of orthodox saints.
Daughter Leila's emergency medical absentee ballot is ready to drop in the box. #Vote
I am stealing people's leaves. I haul their sacks away before the city refuse truck can take them. I rake by night. The pile in my yard is getting bigger and bigger. If you know me, you know I'm not kidding.
And I use the bags for mulch.
The Face in the Candy Corn. If you don't vote, Trump-possessed candy corn will swarm over your body like a horde of yellow-orange-white cockroaches and eat you alive.

@skeletor I love you, Skeletor!
@JuliusGoat True that. In my neighborhood, the Harris-Walz signs outnumber the Trump-Vance signs by at least 7-1, and that’s in Louisville, Kentucky.
