I can tell you right now that M. Silas is in the “Je refuse!” camp on this one.
Almost surely this is a joke -- and another bad one at that.
"could reevaluate its military support" =/= imposing consequences

This is 100% a purposeful reference and an homage to the Nazi event. The feigned outrage at having that pointed out is fully comical.

It’s been a real bummer this past week to watch WordPress (and Matt Mullenweg) so completely and publicly implode. This was a guy who, from my pov, hadn’t put a foot wrong for 20 years building and protecting the open Internet. I know he thinks he’s still doing that, but whatever his ends might be, the means are painful to watch.
"We have established the strongest legal foundation for public access and reuse of digitizations of public domain works ever, in the most challenging possible circumstances, against an extremely well-positioned adversary. This ruling [now on appeal] is a significant accomplishment that will help with every other fight for public access to cultural heritage works in France and beyond." #OpenAccess #CulturalHeritage

Good. It’s time to start pricing in these risks and encouraging prospective buyers to pay attention to them.

If you come to Mastodon — or Threads or Bluesky — to weirdly confess that you’re still addicted to Twitter even though (you say) it sucks now, I have no absolution for you. Sort your own conscience.
I honestly believe this is the plan. They’ll try to create enough chaos in pivotal states to throw it to the Supreme Court, and the conservative majority will maneuver to do for Trump what they did for W in 2000.

MAGA has Kid Rock, and they love false equivalence, so I don’t know why they’re so upset that TS endorsed Kamala Harris. 🙄
There are many, many problems with "leaving abortion to the states," and this is a big one -- when one state wants to dictate what people can do when they're in another state. That move reveals the lie behind the GOP's claim that overturning Roe was about respect for state sovereignty.

This is such a petty headline. How about he’s content (like a normal grown adult) not to be the center of attention 24-7, unlike that guy whose narcissism you mine for clicks.
I think we don’t talk enough about how NASA has stranded astronauts in space and is relying on commercial services to get them back but one of those commercial services can’t manufacture safe equipment and the other is run by a fascist.
Reaganomics was always bullshit, and its cynical proponents have always known that. Shame on the media for only calling bullshit now, after extreme wealth inequality has wrecked our democracy and rotted our social fabric.

Lack of quote post functionality on here is increasingly a drag. Feels like it’s on the roadmap but never any closer to being a reality. To me, it’s missing basic functionality for this kind of platform and a reason why Mastodon isn’t more appealing to folks who want an alternative to X but don’t view the Fediverse as a religion.
Reading the NYT this morning and wondering if the countdown has started yet on the Trump campaign’s ditching JD Vance.
