Those votes were there for the Dems to pick up. And they failed spectacularly at that.

Still seeing the reaction amongst my peers in Puerto Rico, this analysis is way better than I could articulate.

Hidden in plain sight of all the electoral mobilization messaging is the fact that we were never part of the electoral agenda until now. And also, the messaging that it is now our time to “step up”. Which for folks like me, who can’t vote, translates to dread, and stress.

The reaction by mainlanders to reminds us they vacation here all the time is a bitter reminder about what we are suffering right now:

mass displacement due to no job opportunities

corporate opportunities to soak up on cheap real estate for short term rentals

A failing social safety net due to austerity measures brought to us by Wall Street and by extension the PROMESA act

And the fact that we are increasingly more vulnerable to the effects of climate change. So… what do we do?

Iran threatening USA’s gas supplies in the Middle East if they intervene on behalf of Israel, which would skyrocket gas prices domestically. But before you get angry at Iran, remember that people have been protesting for a long time in favor of a ceasefire. A ceasefire would’ve avoided all this.

Remember, the infantilization and criminalization of protesters have led us to this point. And of course time has proven protesters were right yet again.

I’m glad I try to stay away from following people like that. Being that naive at this stage of the game is so dangerous for everyone.

I was watching a tourist talking about their experience in Puerto Rico. I was ready to cringe.

But then they went into the details. Cheap AirBnB. Tons of red flags the owner is sketchy as hell. Gun shots outside. People trying to get in forcing the door. Them calling the police and the police asking them if they can step outside and see the shooter (!!!) while the electricity came and went.

They got the real PR experience. This shit ain’t for the weak 😩

4 years ago as a society we were talking about George Floyd’s murder and how police brutality is so normalized cops usually get away with it. It was such a necessary conversation. And the media and politicians were actually paying attention for once.

4 years later people are begging for attention to the Palestinian genocide only to be met with indifference at best and outright conspiracy theories and propaganda at worst.

It feels like we didn’t do any progress at all.

As recently as last week we lost someone because the mutual aid wasn’t enough. And people were being assholes about it, which led to this person already struggling being unhoused and harassed, over the edge.

So yeah. You don’t know what people are going through. And if you can’t help, just shut up and scroll away.

The USA-imposed company managing the electric grid in #PuertoRico left people for a month without electricity.

Their suggestion was to replace this huge transformer. It took weeks to get it there. Hooked it up and… it does not work.

So, those people have to now wait for another month without electricity.

This is killing people, small businesses and pushing people in debt even more.
