It appears that social web/fediverse compatible web mentions are being worked on over on Threads.

Perhaps the best part of this interview (so far!) is that @Gargron says he prefers the phrase "social web" over fediverse. LET'S DO IT!

Very interesting listen considering that what @dansup is suggesting for the social web, Meta is doing between Threads, Instagram, and Facebook.
@photomatt 's suggestion to provide "adjustments" when sharing (intentionally) to other social contexts is worth considering given the reaction many are having to their Threads content appear on Facebook.

16 years after the DiSo Project¹ kicked off² to turn WordPress blogs into identity hubs of a vast, open, and decentralized social web, ActivityPub (the successor to ActivityStrea.ms) has now landed in core³.
This is huge for the fediverse! 🥳
Congrats @pfefferle!

Friends of the #Fediverse — I'm looking for nominations of Makers on Mastodon! Share your best follows with me and I may be able to get them some extra visibility!

Hashtags arrive on Bluesky... via API anyway. Interesting implementation.
"there are two kinds of tags supported, twitter-style (inline) and tumblr style (outside the text)"
"the inline tags are via richtext facets. the outside tags are via a tags array. there's no need to duplicate between them or sync them; they serve different UI purposes"
"they are both used for indexing/discovery"

That sound you hear is the fediverse expanding!
"ActivityPub 1.0.0 for WordPress has been released allowing WordPress blogs to be followed by others on apps like Mastodon and others in the fediverse and then receive replies back as comments on their own sites."

The first hashtag on Threads is #paidpromotion
@feld By "using it right now", do you mean you're able to stay in the same thread w/ me w/o mentioning my username? If so, that makes sense — since Twitter had the concept of "in-reply-to" threading that allowed posts to... be in reply to another thread, and it wasn't necessary to mention the OP.
@feld @Gargron Perhaps! Worth an exploration — including how such a feature could be abused or lead to broken conversation context!
@Gargron I think the person I'm citing is myself?
Will clarify re beta 1.
Do you have a set of tests I can look at to better understand the behavior you've designed? I was relying on the screenshots in the Github issue.
Also, I was unaware of this: "as tags authored in non-Mastodon software that are not included in the body of the post would become visible for the first time"; are you saying that ActivityPub already supports non-inline tags on posts?
Is it time for hashtags to evolve?
Well, they're about to on Mastodon due to an upcoming change in v4.2.0, advanced by @Gargron himself.
I have some thoughts.
The @music 𝕏 handle was just seized through eminent domain by X Corp. from Jeremy Vaught after he had accrued 11.4M followers over 16 years.
So much for 𝕏 being the "best place on Earth for great content creators". 🙄
Kickstarter has announced its AI policy and is leaning into self-disclosure.
**• Projects utilizing AI tools for generating images, text, or any other output **must disclose relevant details on their project page
**• Projects *developing* AI technology, tools, or software** must disclose information about any databases and data the creator intends to use

I'm not sure how this will be feasible any time soon:
*We’ll also ask whether the creator has consent from owners of the works that are used to produce the AI-generated portion of their project.*
Reddit has a #NewAppIcon, which apparently is part of a plot to extort users into paying for Reddit Premium.

Apparently no women are necessary to "understand the true nature of the universe" because they don't have dicks to measure.
Well shit... Meta just entered the W3C Social Web Incubator chat:
"What can Meta do to support the fediverse? How can we ensure our entry to this ecosystem is a positive thing that helps grow the community? How can we support this standard? These are the questions in my mind, and I'm really keen to start discussing this with all of you."
