not only untold square yds of dedicated single story auto parking space, but UC Davis driving employees parking on sidewalks blocking egress to & from bldgs simply because the abled drivers of air-conditioned vehicles want to park them in the shade of trees or don't want to walk 15 feet further to legal safe parking.

Rationing out the space is both ableist and car-centrist. It says that disabled people's needs are "special" and must be rationed & policed by the university's Disabled Students Center & Disability Management Services and UC Davis TAPS...not that UC has multiple legal and moral obligations to make things accessible by default.

UC fights you, drags its feet, buries credit for the enormously hard work you put into fighting them and working for justice...

BUT KEEP FIGHTING

This is not the equitable solution they should have adopted, but I guarantee you they would never have installed this had I not spent years fighting them in every venue I could think of.

They bury credit because they don't want you to know fighting gets results!

This is the 3rd installation of more accessible (but still not the equitable solution) cycle racks at UC Davis that I know of.

IT IS DUE to work I & later UC Access Now did.

UC Davis TAPS has never notified me when these are installed nor credited my work as the impetus. They would not have installed these without a lot of hard work from me (incl. resultant damage to my health)

But keep fighting

That trip to Costco was entirely so I could get lidocaine patches for my brutal RSI pain. To try to make it worth the trip, I picked up butter and dried mangos as well. It was ~$75. It costs a lot to buy even OTC painkillers. #CripTax

Trying to find a sweet spot again - baking frozen croissant dough in the solar oven used to be a snap but I might not have realized that was because of the time of year I was doing it.

Right now it's hot enough by afternoon that I need to use air conditioning. I have the thermostat set as high as I can make work for me and the mildew problems in the trailer. But that is too much cold air blowing from above down onto the dough - it doesn't want to rise.#SolarCooking

Compare the speed with which businesses & institutions are adopting AI (despite its inaccuracy and lack of ethical provenance) to the footdragging that makes businesses & institutions inaccessible even 34 years after the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law.

Activism is required.

You cannot escape climate change by going off-grid and creating a permaculture ecovillage - climate change will catch up with you & yours.

Not saying there might not be other good reasons to form intentional communities, but you cannot ethically escape the requirement to be an activist.

The greedhead fascists who brought us anthropogenic climate change won't stop continuing their violence voluntarily. They must be met with active and constant resistance and outflanking.

I put them in without reflectors for a while because I wanted a chance for them to keep rising before fully baking. That seems to have been effective.

I keep messing up frozen croissants by forgetting to take them out to thaw/rise at the right time.

This time I messed them up by not putting them in the freezer quickly enough when I got home from the store. So they rose a teeny bit in the pkg, then got frozen again. I took them out at the right time this morning, but they are well behind in rising.

Gave up and put them in the solar oven just now anyway. They will be slightly flatter almond croissants. #SolarCooking

It's very difficult to burn anything in this type of solar oven. But you can brown things a lot or dry them out.

I got caught up in Mastodon and didn't keep track of time so these are browner than is ideal. The lack of rise is entirely my fault - due forgetting to put the frozen Trader Joe's croissant dough in the freezer when I got home from shopping.

Even flawed, this will probably still be among the best croissants in Davis because it's that bad here since Konditorei closed. #SolarCooking

Got my first-ever email from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. I did not sign up for the email. I had to use the "find" function to find the legally-required unsubscribe part because the print was so tiny.

And then it sent me to an intermediate page where if I'd put in my email and hit "submit", it would have been SUBSCRIBING. I had to read a couple paragraphs carefully to find the link to another page where I found this form.

There's a difference between coping by operating with the unjust system we have now, and advocating & working for the systems we *ought* to have.

We can do both.

Advocating for something more just is not the same as being naïve and not knowing how things currently tend to work.

Talking down to ppl who are advocating for more just systems doesn't help us & can actually condition ppl to think what we have now is unchangeable. It's not.

Just saw someone recommending cycling/urbanism accounts to follow and every one was a white (presumably abled) dude, with the exception of a podcast that has a white woman.

I know we're somewhat limited in recommendations by who joined Mastodon & participates here, but try to recommend more diverse follows. The most famous accts are not necessarily the ones doing the work. I've seen some scrape & re-brand the work of white women & BIPOC without credit.

Switch it up.

A lot of rhetoric in our society, including among ppl who think of themselves as feminists, insists that these things are the same. To the extent you agree that it is, you are actually helping the right-wing metonymy of woman = womb, and harming women who did not have children
