Staff are getting more and more frustrated with the number of patrons coming into the library asking for something that Gemini or ChatGPT or whatthehellever told them about that doesn't actually exist, or is less than accurate.
These companies have done a great job of getting people to trust these things, and it's creating so many problems.
I'll say it again, and a bit louder for the people in the back:
Under "Industry Support", Meta is the fourth one down.
That alone was enough for me to immediately write this organization off back when it was announced.
Meta wants to use the Fediverse as another avenue to farm AI training data, and user data. Their involvement in this organization is simply to figure out how they can do that, and any other ways they can loot the Fediverse for anything they can.
@captainarcee I have two of these, which I found used for about $150, years ago. I think there are now newer models out, but I'm not sure.
Debian picks it up as separate audio and video inputs. When used with our PS5, I plug my controller headset output into the headset input on the Avermedia, and then plug my controller into the controller output on the Avermedia, and it then picks up all the game sound and my commentary.
It's infuriating watching the "homeless problem" debate happening in our local government. There isn't even an agreement on what the homeless problem is.
One side that sees the problem as the thing that is making people homeless, and the other side that sees the problem as the homeless people themselves.
As per usual, it's the "love thy neighbor and feed the poor" Christians spouting the most hateful rhetoric, and simply not wanting to have to see poor people.
We still have parts of town without power. People have been asked to stay out of the rivers because of all the downed power lines, and debris in the rivers.
We've also been asked to conserve water because our usual water source, which is gravity fed, still isn't cleared out, so the city has pumps running on generators to pump water to the city.
The governor declared our county, and the one west of us, to be disaster areas.
When I was a kid, up until around 2005-ish, forest fires were rare here. If there were two or three over a five year period, that was a lot.
Now, we are surrounded by them every summer, and the smoke rolling in means the air is brown, and a health hazard for most of the summer. Those of us with lung problems wear shop respirators to walk to and from work.
This is normal now, but it used to be the stuff of 1970s and 1980s sci-fi movies about dystopian futures where the wealthy plundered the environment, exploited the working class, and were generally above the law.
Every time I install Windows 11 at work, I feel like I've sold off a little more of my soul.
This operating system is one of the biggest privacy disasters to ever be forced upon the world of personal computing.
Seriously, I know it's intimidating, I know computers are complicated, but you need to ditch Microsoft, and Google. They are not your friends. They are using and exploiting our entire population.
@matoakit@Alkaris Seeing a lot of this in the last few years. Lots of very far/over reaching anti-porn laws have been passed in the US, and it's affecting everything. I've been wondering how much longer Patreon is going to continue to allow it.
