When we moved to Perth, we committed to try without our car. Maybe we didn’t ingrain our car habits after moving and that made it easier to sell it. We’ve been car-free for >4 years now. There are some hiccups, PT doesn’t always get you to where you’re going but Uber/Taxis exist.

I don’t miss having a car and the $$ that it costs. I find I really don’t like driving anymore either. I now find it stressful. Probably did when I owned a car too, but took it for granted.

A researcher asked 10 people to go car-free for 20 days. None wanted to continue
      from Felicity Caldwell
Despite saving hundreds of dollars and even making new friends, none of the people who agreed to ditch their car for this Brisbane experiment wanted to go car-free permanently. This is why.

I'm looking for two academic level A/B research fellows to join my team in Perth at Curtin University. Please note that these positions are similar but not the same and have different contract lengths and different foci in their work. Both focus on analytical methods, one meta-analysis/economic impact and the other is remote sensing pipeline tool development.

@skinnylatte tried it while in Batad, PHL years ago. I don’t recall getting that much from it. But it was fun to try it.

Subcommunity Spotlight: Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand
The Subcommunity Spotlight blog series aims to raise awareness of the many vibrant subcommunities within The Carpentries and highlight their activities. A subcommunity brings together a subset of the broader Carpentries community. It may be local (e.g., a university-based Carpentries club), regional (e.g., The Carpentries in Africa), or special interest-driven (e.g., HPC Carpentry, Carpentries-es, CarpentriesOffline). The series aims to foster connections among members, whether they live in the same region, speak a common language, or share similar interests. To learn more or get involved in a subcommunity, join the #subcommunity channel on Slack or reach out via email at community@carpentries.org. If you lead a subcommunity and would like to be featured in a future edition of this series, we’d love to hear from you!

I'm ready to launch my computer out the window of my office, but it's a Mac and it's MS Word causing the issue for me. I can't type a comment. Somehow the comment text box keeps losing focus and I can type one letter, hit the mouse key, hit another, hit the mouse key and it MIGHT let me type another letter before it loses focus again. Uggh. I don't know what causes this but it's damned frustrating.

@skinnylatte I still recall my first time in Thailand having pineapple chunks with chilli sugar. I was just consumed with the genius of this combination that I'd never had before.

@skinnylatte having worked in government, watching “Utopia” wasn’t relaxing. It was a documentary. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3163562/

@liztai I really don’t understand the fear and opposition to this idea. This is largely how I live too. It’s just easy.
