At the core, blame the stock market because companies have to show growth year over year otherwise they get poor ratings and CEOS get canned. So companies buy other companies to show growth, or they do shady stuff like this to reduce costs. If I was Grand Puba for a day, I'd try to figure out how to save peoples retirements/401ks and dissolve the stock market at the same time.

I was weekend manager at a convince store and I was the one who had to load all the new barcodes whenever suppliers made any changes. Most candy bars sizes went down about the same time. Been going on for a long time. Not that I'm giving a Biden a pass on any of his f'ups, just know not all of this is on him.

Products got larger over the years, then after the 07/08 crash, they did this slowly to bring back profit margins in line. It's continued since. Obama/Biden own most of this for how they handled the economy after 07/08, but Trump fubar'd his part to with the covid fiasco.
