At the core, blame the stock market because companies have to show growth year over year otherwise they get poor ratings and CEOS get canned. So companies buy other companies to show growth, or they do shady stuff like this to reduce costs. If I was Grand Puba for a day, I'd try to figure out how to save peoples retirements/401ks and dissolve the stock market at the same time.
