“Federated” is the cosmic firehose of everything, everywhere, in languages you don’t speak.
➡️ Exactly. That's the initial idea of the internet. That is how you broaden your horizons and get to learn and meet beyond your bubble. And fortunately a lot of people still speak or are interested in multiple languages and other cultures.

(Minor nitpick: we’d suggest they move “Local” feed back under “Explore” and make it only “Following” and “For You.” But we digress.)

The goal isn’t to replicate TikTok’s dopamine machine, but to give users powerful ways to sort and filter their Home timeline without needing to understand federation theory.

Missing in general:

• basic account info (e.g. date created)
• start with following feed (app and web)
• muting, filter, cw
• Personal notes
• block server
• video upload date (for context, to know if it is old when engaging and not to trigger e.g. fomo)

And why is there a dark overlay on all videos on a profile`s grid (web)?

@Mastodon No one is expecting you to put every single info in an ad. But why make it so over the top? Nobody is against supporting you. We are just fed up with US-corporate-style-like communication and promises which can never be kept. It is offensive to talk to your audience this way, because it assumes we are dumb.

Just be honest and transparent and stick to the great features and advantages your overall great software actually provides and what the Fediverse is all about. 💜

I'd like to know, if it is possible for a Mastodon server admin to add or remove followers from an account other than its own, without the person (the account owner) knowing/being notified? 🤔
