Web dev friends: What was your "aha!" moment in web dev? What revelation or scenario made you a senior? What made you find out "how the sausage is made" that fundamentally changed your view on web development?

I see lots of people crossposting to Mastodon and Bluesky, I do too. But it's hard to chose the platform where I want to interact with my peers. I won't answer the same post twice. Most of the time I go for "the one which is currently open"
Is it an Antidepressant or a Tolkien character:
What a week in AI!
- Microsoft releases its biggest invasion of your privacy in decades!
- Sam Altman violates Scarlett Johansson to get her likeness for his digital parrot!
- Google UX legend Scott Jenson declares idea bankruptcy at Google and panic driven AI development because they want to lock you in faster than their competitors!
This shit is going great!
@eaton @tanepiper @zachleat @dries Agree! I have seen situations where the content team used a CMS to structure/organize their content independently of what design or development wanted to create in the end. Often even months in advance. The CMS was strong enough to put everything into hierarchy, and flexible enough for all outputs.
@eaton @tanepiper @zachleat @dries 😂
But then again, what isn't?
What would make a CMS "complete" in your opinion?
@zachleat @dries My problem with both the terms MACH and Jamstack is that they don't describe architectures but marketing vehicles for early/mid-stage startups. Especially MACH can be very adamant about this: Don't run your own service but pour money into SaaS subscriptions.
I finished Super Mario Land 1 + 2 and Super Mario Brothers 1-3 (All Stars on SNES) decades ago and recently again. I just started Super Mario World for the first time in my life (yes, I know), and I find the controls irritatingly hard to master. Especially with the Feather power-up and Yoshi. I constantly jump off of Yoshi and send him into the depths of the netherworld. I wonder if this gets better, but right now it's very frustrating, especially compared to how well SMB3 plays on the SNES.
I just read an article on Medium about the `never` type in TypeScript that is so painfully wrong on all levels,... I thought it might be LLM-generated but even those write better stuff 😞
Microsoft migrating one of their core platforms from C# to Rust is a huge deal. Not only for #rustlang, but for the message that their in-house programming language, where they have the designers and developers of the language and runtime environment directly reachable, is not considered sufficient enough for the task at hand.
Something tells me that this isn't an official Super Mario World strategy guide, but I can't put my finger on it. #retrogaming
Happy New Year. 2023 was shit. I hope 2024 will be better🤘
"Attack of the Killer Features in Zig" takes 30 mins to convince me why I won't use it.
5 minutes in and the first "The programmer needs to be aware that the compiler is doing this" -> Nope, no thank you. Never in the history of Programming Languages has it been a good idea to optimize something for the sake of clarity.
Never thought the first job to be taken by OpenAI would be Sam Altman’s
Oh no! My kid texted me that they lost their phone and got a new number, and I should contact them via WhatsApp cause they need some money! ?
Not bad for a 2-year-old.
OK, I really want to dig into the ActivityPub spec and implement a few things on my own.
This is triggered by Tumblr's commitment to ActivityPub. I think being able to consume different consume within one social feed is a brilliant idea.
Developer writing about #rust and #typescript. Movie buff. Looking into Lego and alternate vendors. @ddprrt on Twitter, Reddit, GitHub. Not a real parrot. Also not dead.
