Special addendum for folks living in suburban and rural areas: that Pride bumper sticker makes you really easy to follow.

I came out in 1993 and have never passed as hetero. My personal rules for staying alive in the bad old days included, but were not limited to:
- keep your head up in public
- don't trust cops
- never travel alone
- unless proven otherwise, assume any hetero you encounter, including family, will always choose their comfort over your rights
- beware groups of white boys
- don't let the bastards get you down

To all U.S.-based GenX and older #lgbtq folks, prepare to revert to 1995 settings.

Once you've got your wisdom from the bad old days locked in, start sharing it with the young 'uns. This is all new and terrifying to them, and they need our strength.

Moving along with the patterns for the upcoming #ElfkinCollection trunk show, and I've come to the #DragonScaleKilt.

Womenswear formulas were rendering nonsense shapes for a skirt block based on my measurements*. So I just rotated my existing pants block a bit and redrew the waist.

*obs I'm modeling this one myself

My usual procedure for *topstitching* (edit) seams with bulky transitions (e.g. crotch seam crossing yokes on jeans):

1. Grade and hammer seam.
2. Make offering to ancestors.
3. Ready shims.
4. Cleansing breaths.
5. Turn on machine.
6. Sew.
7. Agonize over the quality of the stitches and redo at least one section.

Revised procedure for new walking foot industrial machine:
1. Turn on machine.
2. Sew.

My only regret is that I waited so long to add one of these beasts to my arsenal.

Your skills should be at a level where you're able to create patterns based on technical sketches. So that the work may be done from anywhere, I’m specifically looking for someone(s) who uses computer-based methods.

What I do wonder is how proud your moms would be of you arguing with #lgbtq folks on Mastodon and repeatedly trying to explain how to Pride to us.

Good allies uplift the community that they claim to support.

This post is not uplifting. It is scolding a community long since tired of being told how to act by straight folks.
