   #Pride2024 is for everyone! This isn't something to debate. The purpose of PRIDE is to celebrate UNITY between all people, gay and straight. The symbol is a rainbow to represent EVERYONE. It is NOT exclusive for the #LGBTQ community and excluding allies takes away from the progress the community as a whole has made to be accepted by society. If you disagree, I really don't give a shit. I've been a part of this community since I was 10 and I'm PRETTY sure I know more gay people than you. 😅

     @jacklaridian Pride was a riot because straight people wanted us dead.
     I am glad we have made a little progress there, but pride is for US. The cis have the other 364 days (or 11 months) to be proud of who they are, which is not queer.
     Next you will be telling me cops are OK at pride....

     Wow. You wanna know what my moms think? Because I'm happy to tell you.

     They think the same way I do. Pride is everyone and we all fought to make that a reality.

     They also think (I know this because I hear about it all the time from them and their friends) that nudity and fetish gear has no place at these events and just holds back the movement.

     The only people complaining about the fact that Pride has become 'family friendly' are people that miss the exclusivity of the event.

     @jacklaridian No doubt your moms are rightfully proud of the son they raised. You are clearly a fierce ally of the queer community.

     What I do wonder is how proud your moms would be of you arguing with #lgbtq folks on Mastodon and repeatedly trying to explain how to Pride to us.

     Good allies uplift the community that they claim to support.

     This post is not uplifting. It is scolding a community long since tired of being told how to act by straight folks.

     Okay, allow me to speak rationally for a moment.

     I know there is a schism in the community about whether PRIDE should more exclusive or more inclusive and I fall into the category of those arguing for the latter. People arguing that there are 'too many straight people' can go jump off a fuckin' cliff.

     Now, call me privileged like you know me. Like I haven't been right there fighting for decades for the rights of the people in my family to be allowed to exist. Wanna compare scars?

Have you noticed how it has received so much criticism and so little defense? That should be a sign for you to pause and reconsider whether you’re being the ally who you think you are.
