I've always wanted a Grandfather Clock. But I'd also like to build one.
Has anyone been on a clock-making workshop? Is that even a thing?

🆕 blog! “Bryan Adams lied to you”
I'm always interested in when anachronistic technology pops up in the media. Whether it's Kelly Rowland trying to send an email using Excel, or people in spaceships developing film photographs, or futuristic moonbases which use BS 1363 plugs - I just love it! So, I was watching that absolute banger of a tune "When You're […]

Perhaps the greatest TODO of all time - in the Apollo 11 source code.
What's the worst way someone has mangled the spelling of your name?

🆕 blog! “Shakespeare Serif - an experimental font based on the First Folio”
Disclaimer! Work In Progress! See source code. I recently read this wonderful blog post about using 17th Century Dutch fonts on the web. And, because I'm an idiot, I decided to try and build something similar using Shakespeare's first folio as a template. Now, before setting off …

Any thoughts on what to do with an old #Android tablet?
It is the original (?) Nexus 7. I've resurrected it with #LineageOS 15 - but it runs slow as molasses uphill. Scrolling on the web is pretty stuttery.
Anything cool you've seen done with obsolete tech like this?
@joshaspinall
Let me know if you get it running.
@Gargron looking really nice! It is picking up my blog's metadata perfectly.
@dansup I see. Presumably you need to register an app on every instance that a user signs up from?
@dansup Will you be opening the code to the sign-in stuff?
I've tried to get Mastodon working with Auth0 and I just couldn't get my head around how to make it work.
Last week I opened a pension. Wanted to test that I'd got the bank details right, so I transferred in a single quid.
This time next year, Rodney...!
Inexplicably, I have a finance meeting on a Saturday morning.
This is not the start to the weekend I hoped for.
Long shot, but does anyone have an explainer to how the Elite procedural generation algorithm worked?
(I know the source code is available, but I'm looking for something a little more hand-holding than that.)
@slowbikeiain
That's interesting. Which countries passed such laws?
I've got too many blog posts in "drafts" and not enough in "scheduled".
But I hate all my drafts.
So, dear FediFriends, what would *you* like me to blog about?
🆕 blog! “Review: Watchy - an eInk watch full of interesting compromises”
★★★⯪☆
The last smartwatch that I tried was some awful early Sony device with a locked-down ROM. The battery died after a day and I couldn't find the proprietary charger. It slurped up all my data. It was garish to look at. And it was expensive. The Watchy is the opposite in e…
