Their only saviour was they were built using heart rimu, south island at least.
I bought a typical art Deco once. Main problem was a rotted floor (too close to the earth), leaking plumbing and a couple of rusted sheets of British Steel ( roofing iron)
Spent some time and money, paint mainly and gave it new life. Not sure how old it was. Art Deco era.
It was demolished a couple of owners later. Now townhouses. Agghh.

Interestingly, alot of MOW houses built for hydro workers used untreated pine. Some still in good order. Possibly because the use of "old man pine" with age so larger percentage of heart and not radiata, which took prominence later as a bastardised breed to grow quickly.
Ive used Douglas Fir, also known as NZ Oregon, for framing and structural beams. Still available but more expensive than Radiata I've found.

I'm not a nuclear bombologist by any means, but from what I have read, the nuclear bombs used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were minos compared to the modern versions. That in itself is a concern. How much of the planet could be annihilated with a flick of a switch, push of a button, isn't worth thinking about.
I suppose that's why they are referred to as a deterrent.

I attended a session organized by a government agency, which one evades me, two years ago. Also a similar local event organized in conjunction with local government. Two years ago as well.
The purpose was to provide facts about climate change threats known and projected and obtain feedback to who should be responsible for paying for any solutions.
Brilliant I thought. This is being taken seriously and a plan will be forthcoming.
Nah.
So now another disaster and head scratching by politicians who seem to be more concerned about fiscal benefits than giving our population confidence in future direction.

I don't really want to be a meddler with the politics of other countries, but as I am a citizen of a country(New Zealand) that shares similar values as Canada by being a member of The Commonwealth, I stand with them to oppose Trump's bully rhetoric toward their sovereign nation.
King Charles is the leader of the Commonwealth. I wonder about his response and indeed, should it be sought. This is not just about politics.

This is starting to infuriate me. We are a multicultural and multilingual country now.
White man ex English draconic lordism and a few other expletives I could think of is called for.
This is surely driven from ACT with their obvious hate for others of different colour, race and ethnicity.
New Zealand population makeup has and is changing. We adapt and welcome surely.
